My wife is glad to let me do all the finances, so we have a shared account. There are way too many budget items that it would create too much work to split the bills.

Our rule is if it’s under $100, no need to ask. And obviously don’t go spending $99 every day of the week on random crap.

I have a general rule that there’s in an inverse relationship between “economic value” and memorable fun. Hobbies weddings kids all fun. All terrible in terms of cost/benefit.

RVs are a pretty good example of my theory. They are expensive and uneconomical and time consuming. But they are also fun and a great way to make memories.

I don’t own an rv and I don’t have a country club membership but those are two things that would be very rewarding but also extremely uneconomical. I want one or both but can’t get over the economics and the opportunity cost. So I don’t have either. But I fully encourage an overly expensive, physically and mentally taxing idea like flying 5 hours round trip in one day to spend a few hours at a theme park

A few years ago we looked at joining Latrobe Country Club. The cost isn't outrageous but I barely have time for the stuff I want to do around the house I can't imagine I'd get enough value back from a club like that.

Fast forward a few years and I'm joining a flying club. Same financial cost (initiation fee, monthly dues, activity fees) but it feels so much more useful because I'm getting the use of an airplane out of it, including training.

I took Friday off to do all my weekend chores so that I could have a free weekend to do the stuff around the house that I wanted to do and still didn't have them done by Sunday night so I took Monday off as well. I agree, how the hell do people have time for something like a country club? I suppose they pay people to do the stuff that I do around the house and then have the time?

I tried to rationalize it because I was already playing golf a few times a week. And with the dining minimums I figured instead of the wife and I randomly going out to dinner at different restaurants we could just go to the club by default. Then I thought about it and realized I'd be playing the same course and eating the same food constantly and it lost it's appeal. I looked into a golf-only club like Hannastown instead but never pulled the trigger.

My wife and I have five jobs between us so it's just not doable right now. Maybe if we were retired. But even then we have more of an interest in traveling, not sitting at a golf club in western PA.

I did tell my wife I'm thinking about taking a random day off every 2-3 weeks just to get **** done around the house. The problem is I'm already going to be doing that for flight training. Maybe next year.

My goodness is this true.

I think some of it's mental, like if we're spending a ton I develop unrealistic expectations of what we should get out of it, so I'm more likely to feel a tinge of disappointment with something. We learned a long time ago that my wife and I are more 'pizza and a bottle of wine' Valentine's Day peeps than $300 dinner for two peeps...which I am more than fine with.

One of her friends found it in a Disney Facebook group. I’m shocked Disney hasn’t gobbled this idea up with their own website and corporate optimization.

You seem to be forgetting that one trip to EPCOT means a trip to Mexico, Norway, China, Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, Morocco, France, and the UK.
I was gonna say, EPCOT is the first place I had Japanese food.

Damn, I had a shared bank account with a lady I dated and lived with ~10 years ago and we were not married. Used it to pay rent, and bills, then had our separate accounts for whatever we wanted.

That's actually funny because her name is also an old-timey male name.

I have seen more than enough baby month counting pictures on Facebook of a kid with a dumb blanket, but holy **** is a kid in a pizza box with two slices of pizza the worst. I hope that kid grows up to be everything you don't want it to be, you suck.
