Thankfully, Hersey doesn't attack my face like that (or try to tea-bag me). He just likes to sit on my chest when I lie down.

A mouse family apparently made the exceedingly poor decision to try to move into my house today. I found a deceased mouse on the landing on my stairs when I got home from work. I wasn't sure which cat did it, but I suspected Hershey, who delights in chasing and killing bugs. A couple hours later, I hear thumps and what sounds like squeaking coming from the living room, and I discover that Hershey has caught a second mouse. That one I got away from him while it was still alive. I released it in a field over by the on-ramp to 279.

After three years of dealing with autoimmune blood disorders (IMT and IMHA) resulting in the better part of 3 years on prednisone and other meds, liver problems resulting from the long term steroid use, and now a week’s worth of gastroenteritis that is not resolving, we have decided to call tomorrow to have our 6 year old cocker spaniel Rosie put down.

I’m absolutely heartbroken. Don’t even know what to say when I call. These last 6 months or so she hasn’t been herself. We can’t continue putting her through this pain (and, sadly, throwing money at it with no end in sight).

That's terrible, so young. Noble of you to exhaust all effort to help, though.

Thanks guys. Appreciate you all even though I've never met you in person. Such a hard decision with a lot of tears and self questioning.

It’s better to do it a touch too soon rather than wait till it’s too late. Trust yourself that you are making the right decision.

As others have said, take solace in the fact that you are making the best decision for her, RF. It's devastating for you and yours, but she will be at peace. Sounds like she fought with everything she had, and all you could give her. That speaks volumes of her...and you. Take care.

Also, meow's "ball in a box" grief illustration is worth scrolling back for if you need it. It's really the only thing of value he's ever contributed here.
