He is brutal. Last season in 30 starts he had a 5.55 ERA, 5.90 FIP, 1.60 WHIP (!!!), 111K : 53 BB

Two things in the stats I didn’t want to see.
Cruz’s k rate and Hayes’ ground ball rate. The two areas that need to be down for these guys to be core lineup contributors.
Started seeing these chinks in the armor the other day and it could be a killer.

Is Paul Alexander going to be doing a lot of the pre and postgame stuff for the pirates?

Ildemaro vargas apparently played 7 games here in 2021, which I have absolutely no recollection of occurring

Nice game for Perez. Efficient too.

Can't go 161-1 if you don't start 6-1

Can they go 14-7 to get to 20-8? Would be peak entertainment imo

Jimmy Leyland throws out the first pitch of opening day.
Granted he was a heavy smoker but he seemed pretty old when he was managing in the early 90s while I was in college.
He was in his late 40s.
Pretty nice first pitch for a 79 year old.

Gonna have to shelf the video that I had planned for Pirates postgame twitter. Hopefully I get to debut it tomorrow.

The chandler line isn’t good.
Barco is my pick to emerge this year.
I don’t think there’s any doubt that Skenes is ready. This is clearly just managing workload right now. I don’t see how he comes up in may at this rate.

Hes going to be on a strict innings count as it is so no rush IMO. If they're within a few games of a WC spot I'd prefer to wait until the break and have him for the stretch run.
Yesterday's 4-7 hitters were 0/16 with 9K.
Would be nice to get cutch and Davis going here a little bit.

I read that he wasn't happy with the pitch count limit and went and threw 40 more pitches in the bullpen

I get the innings count to a degree, but it's not like he's a 19 yr old prospect. He threw 122 innings for LSU 2 years ago with 2 complete games, and looks like he averaged 6 2/3rds over 19 starts. He's also 6'6 250 with an 'easy' throwing motion.
You don't have to treat everyone exactly the same. Stretch his arm back out after you shortened it last year and this spring, and get him the hell up here.
