Jarry might be expendable if you want to roll Ned as your tandem goalie with another guy making the same salary.

Keep them both for next season. Give them both 35+ games. Blomquist will be ready by that time, and then you can reevaluate the position after that.

Yeah, like, you can't just evaluate things a week at a time. There needs to be a process, otherwise you're the Browns.

Yes. This has been the best season of goaltending this team has gotten since the two Cup years. I'd like to keep it that way.

Jarry makes a lot of money figuratively speaking to be top 10 in starts and 22nd in the league in wins. I don't necessarily believe he's been all he's projected to be, but that ain't all on him, either.

I'm fine with the Blomqvist route mentioned above. I just hope they can keep Ned next year.

Jarry was in the Vezina conversation in January for a team that we know didn't deserve it. I know he wore down a bit, like Ned, but this doesn't make much sense. For years, we lamented that we couldn't trust our backups to get us a win, and now we have two guys that are making less than many starters combined and THAT'S not good enough this week either...you can't win for losin' when we look at things like this...

Nah I am not saying, ship him out because he's a bum (even though the 22nd in the league comment was made). I'm saying probably the opposite here. I think they can ride with Ned plus depending on how they want to build the team in the future.

I think he's more valuable to a true contender than he is the Pens, currently. If anything, if the Pens aren't going to compete, he's probably wasted here, more than anything and I don't think that thought really is unheard of. I feel like a few media heads have said the same thing this year.

Ok so what's the deal look like for Ned? 28 year old who has not played more than 30 games in a season but once. Then it's Blomqvist who has zero games?

I think Jarry commands much less compared to what he's worth to us...

Maybe? Maybe not? If there’s an offer out there that helps the future Dubas speaks of, it might be worth it to consider.

Ned doesn’t immediately have to take 50 starts to replace Jarry. If a team comes knocking, I’d have to figure they’d listen.

We see the value of goalies around the league is fairly low in terms of trade. We also see that it's hard to go back and figure it out after the fact (NJ's season was ruined by this, we lost when turning to CDS and Domingue, etc.)...so it's a high risk, low reward move on its face...

We have a top 8 goalie in the NHL with a starter's average cap hit.

Jarry is 22nd in wins, but he is still tied for 1st in shutouts... unfortunately, a lot of goalie stats are tied to the team in front, and this team has been, well, underwhelming this season.

Well, I certainly agree with mikey that he's in the top 10 starters in the NHL and has a comparatively low cap hit. It's hard to argue that.

My biggest concern with Jarry going into this season was his durability, as injuries caused them to turn to CDS way too often last season and it cost them a playoff berth.

Jarry stayed healthy this season, so I feel a lot better about him now. Even so, they've got Ned, and that's important because we learned a hard lesson in 2022 and 2023 as to what happens when your starter gets hurt and you have to turn to a jellyfish.

I see the thought process, Mork, but this team has had two bright spots all year - Sid and goaltending - and you want to dismantle one of them?

I think the real issue is how much money do the Pens want to commit to goaltending given that Ned is a FA and they have other holes to fill?

Most would like to keep both Jarry and Ned.

I’d be verrrry tempted to trade Jarry if the return was excellent. I’d need a young second line center and an above average prospect. That’s unlikely given the goalie market in terms of return not being that great as Mikey mentioned

But say Carolina wanted to take a step up and offered Martin Necas plus one of their top 4-5 prospects, then I would try to find a way to make a Ned plus someone tandem work, although I wouldn’t be extremely confident that would work

When is the last time a goalie returned a top six forward? The Patrick Roy deal (Rucinsky?)

I wouldn't even hold out for a top forward. If and only IF a team came in and offered a good offensive prospect and a higher pick, I'd be tempted.

Penguins could have outs. Again not saying I'd immediately turn around and trade Jarry. This'd only be if Jarry nets any real value in return.

Re-sign Ned, bring in someone like Raanta and have Blom spot start when injuries happen.

Re-sign Ned/Sign Samsonov (since Dubas likes his guys) and let whichever go when it's time to fully promote Blom.

You're mad at Jarry for being inconsistent but think Samsonov, who got sent to the AHL for losing the plot earlier this year, will be brought in as a suitable replacement...?
