hip drop tackles unanimously voted on being banned by the competition committee, per me and Adam Schefter

Three elements in the hip drop. Grip - usually high, neck/shoulder. Rotation - Usually a twisting motion where the tackler is becoming perpendicular to the runner. Weight drop - Usually right on to the back of the legs of the runner.
We'll see how they define the elements exactly, but these are done now.
NFL
As long as it's only called when body weight lands directly on the back of the legs it'll be fine. But we all know it won't be called consistently, TEs will be extremely difficult to tackle downfield legally, refs will over call it leading to some horrible game-deciding penalties, and it'll be another example of why the NFL is difficult to watch.Three elements in the hip drop. They're going to have a hard time differentiating and more gray area is going to come into flags. Frankly, football is a violent sport, legislating everything out of it is just boring imo.
If they wanted to, maybe just make everything above a flag shoulder and above when coming from the side/back area on a runner.

Awful return for one of the best corners in the league, have to think his congenital knee problem played into it though.Chiefs trade CB L’Jarius Snead to the Titans, for a 2025 3rd-round pick, in addition to a 2024 7th-round pick.
NFL
"A tackler grabs the runner with both hands or wraps the runner with both arms, and unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and/or lower body, landing on and trapping the runner's leg(s) at or below the knee." I've seen this more commonly described as 'tackling from behind'.
So if you tackle a QB and don't unweight yourself it is a 15-yard personal foul, but if you do unweight yourself tackling a field runner from behind it can also be a 15-yard foul.

This is stupid

I'll be curious to see what the examples are that they send around to teach this. Refs then teams (if it's like the NHL process) will get these examples about what is and what isn't...I'll be curious if those become public. I'm sure they will, it seems like stuff gets leaked in the NFL all the time because there's just so many people involved...

I support legislation trying to curtail hits to the head because of the serious implications of players with CTE. That is a legitimate issue especially when you have former players like Seau have very sad and traumatic deaths
that said, trying to curtail all injuries is a tough needle to thread

I'm all for making the game safer with the head stuff, but I don't think even players know what exactly a hip-drop tackle is. I looked it up, and from what I can gather it's not so much a technique as it is a result of a runner continuing to run through initial contact, and the defender refusing to let go, especially when trying to tackle from the side on a moving target. I mean, if you're a 6'1" 207lbs safety trying to tackle a 6'5" 260lbs TE, you may find your body in some strange positions, and you need to leverage your entire body weight at times to get them down.
So, basically, really really really stupid rule.

Every player puts those motion capture balls on and does the 40 yard dash, various throwing drills, kicking drills, tackling drills, etc. every player's performance is inputted into a big super computer with four or more vacuum tubes...and then the games are played with an AI simulation using the captured data.

The example video the League presented at the press conference is online.
With absolutely no evidence to backup this claim, I would not be the slightest bit surprised if there were 1,000s of these tackles in a given season without incident, regardless of what the NFL is citing as an 'injury rate' 25x higher than 'regular' tackles. (which seems like an immensely dubious data point)

With KSP being relegated to bench warmer scoring should go back up.

yeah taht's what annoys me about this rule. they'll claim it's for """safety""" but it's more likely related to trying to increase scoring. But increasing scoring through penalties makes the game worse, not betterFunny that this was banned the day after this article:

what's funny to me is a few months ago I found this page (I was arguing with mikey about something...can't remember what...and I found this page) and the NFL has historically been unapologetic about trying to icnrease scoring for entertainment purposes
https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/ev ... nfl-rules/“If someone wants to accuse the National Football League of promoting offense to make the game more exciting, [the committee] believes the league should plead guilty.”
From a 2012 Competition Committee report
“Offensive/Defensive Balance: An Historical Perspective”
In a 1940 report, the Rules Committee stated bluntly: “Each game should provide a maximum of entertainment insofar as it can be controlled by the rules and officials.” The entertainment value of the game, it added, could be measured by “the number of plays per game of a type that will be pleasing to the audience.”
NFL consultant and statistical guru Hugh “Shorty” Ray — enshrined in the Hall of Fame for his contributions to officiating and rule-making — reinforced this notion.
During his work for the NFL from the late 1930s to early 1950s, Ray crunched the numbers and found a direct correlation between scoring and higher attendance — a statistical basis for his recommendations of offense-boosting rules changes. His devotion to statistics as a way to analyze and improve the game also stuck with the league.
maybe more hip drop penalties will lead to more scoring which will lead to more viewers but personally I'll be less interested if hip drop tackles have really any change to scoring (because that means they're getting called enough to affect it)

Broncos and Bears were 19th and 18th in scoring last season so don't expect much lolWith KSP being relegated to bench warmer scoring should go back up.

The Steelers barely scored 300 points last year. I think simply adding like 4 pts a game would vault them into like Houston and Green Bay territory. That's middle pack, but after the last 50 games, I don't think too many Steelers fans would turn their noses up at that.
Such a relatively small different between 'competence' and 'lol' in the NFL. One score per game.

Broncos about to unveil new unis. I'm afraid because we've been a poverty franchise for 8 years and usually that means we're gonna go with some shitty, lowest common denominator design like the Jets/Commies
