One of these days there will be some sort of explanation for Jack Suwinski's season.
It's not uncommon for a rookie to hit better at home than on the road, but Suwinski's splits are truly outrageous. In 175 plate appearances at home, he's slashing .282/.360/.615 with 15 home runs. In 159 trips to the plate on the road, he's slashing .098/.189/.175 with three home runs.
It's just difficult to try to make sense of how Suwinski has the second-best home OPS in the National League (min. 150 PAs, going by figures entering Saturday) behind only Paul Goldschmidt (1.099), but also the lowest for any NL hitter on the road.

I cannot comprehend that player. One day I think he's a nobody. The next I think he could drop his K rate from 35% to 30% and raise his OBP 20-30 points and be a useful starting OF

A non traditional platoon guy, only starts home games
But seriously, a guy that can hit dingers like that has a place

I remember a time where you'd look at the pirates farm system and the team leader at every level would have like 12 homers

I feel like this is something that happens to the astros, all of a sudden, some internal FA pitcher they signed that you never heard of is in their rotation and really good.
Sign a placeholder catcher to break camp with, a first baseman, a DH and one right handed corner outfielder. It’s at least interesting (for those of with no short term expectations).

Pirates claim Miguel Andujar from the Yankees. He was really good as a 23 year old in 2018 and then ?

Ortiz really needs a third pitch in the long run

Appears he had 166 total plate appearances from 2019-2020. Right handed hitting corner infielder/corner outfielder. Intriguing if nothing else. More interesting than "zachary collins"

I surprised they DFA'ed Chavis. He's nothing special but not as useless as Allen, etc have been this year.

I guess Chavis is what he is. Andujar can basically be Chavis 2.0 with a little upside. If not, we have plenty of other infielders coming up soon

Hard to use chavis as a platoon guy against lefties when they dont have a left handed bad to hit against righties. Anyways, in 140+ games he was a sub 700 ops guy with a decent amount of pop with a war below 0. I will not celebrate his departure, but i will not mourn his loss either. The pirates have had a lot of michael Chavises over the years

He was hitting in the .290's coming out of May (.286 in April, .300 for the month of May), then hit .174 in June.
He kinda rebounded in July by hitting .250, but has gone .162 for the month of September. I knew he was bad over the last month, but had no idea it was that bad.

Chavis stinks, but to designate him after he worked his ass off for your **** franchise for 153 games is a dick move and bad practice imo

Chavis is 10-62 in September and was 16-73 in August for a 192 clip. He's a big boy, play better and you'd have a spot.

Those august and september coincide with the Yoshi release. I’d be curious to hear his rightly lefty splits over the last two months

The Huntington/Littlefield retreads were at least intriguing if not recognizable names.
