Unprompted ranking of the Daniel Craig bond themes:

The Writing's On The Wall
Skyfall
You Know My Name
No Time To Die
Another Way To Die

Pre-emptive defense: I think TWOTW has aged really well. The pre-chorus and chorus are quite distinct and strong. Skyfall gets its high marks from the performance and production, but musically, it (like Cornell's YKMN) is basically cut from the "variation on a theme" cloth, which I don't find terribly interesting from a compositional perspective. It's like, sure, we know the Bond theme is wonderful and unique, so it's cool you came up with something around it, but that in particular doesn't move the needle for me a whole lot.

This should have been the title song for Sceptre:

Not Craig Bond related, but would've made a good mid-1990s Brosnan Bond title theme:

I really like Radiohead's song as a cohesive consistent whole, but there's not a part that really stands out, which to me is crucial in a great Bond song. Give me some sort of hook to latch on to. Spectre def works really well with the visual accompaniment, but I don't think it's quite as strong on its own.

Always liked Man of War as well.

Favorite Bond theme ever?

For me, it's close between Goldfinger, Living Daylights, and Spy Who Loved Me

Diamonds are Forever too. That one nails the theme of that movie well.

The World is Not Enough
The remixed Bond theme in OHMSS
Spy Who Loved Me
Live and Let Die

You Only Live Twice is up there, primarily because of its use in an excellent Mad Men episode.

Crikey, I forgot Nobody Does It Better is from The Spy Who Loved Me. That should go on the list, too.

when I was in Ireland I listened a lot to the radio and they talked about and played George Ezra a lot. I gotta say, he’s got some really good songs. Very saccharine and poppy but cheerfully catchy as well and they have great dance vibes

There's a new Snarky Puppy album coming on September 1st.

I'm not usually a fan of jazz or jazz-adjacent music, but these guys are all amazing. They're coming to Stage AE in April 2023.

You tell me:

A river with 5, 6 islands
One is already stuck
Unlocks its jaws
A chatterer tries
Trying to persuade the rock
Who tries but still
Can't escape
A cloud with small eyes
Has peeled off
Remnants of earth still cling to it
All in all
All at once
All at once
All at once
The tricky shadow player
Operates with both hands
Two puppets
Good and not-so-good
At the other end
A shortened crocodile
A plasma cell without a nucleus
Beneath the border hangs a light eater
In the back he wears a 2nd face
His young crawls in dialogue behind
Into the offside, forward
In the infinity
I am also
All in all
Infinitely present
All at once
All at once
All at once
All in all

So not much but funny, that's the first time I've seen any of their lyrics translated and I've been a fan since the 1980's.

Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck, Waylon Jennings, David Allan Coe, Steve Earle, and Billy Joe Shaver would be more classic examples of the genre, and artists like Lucinda Williams, Nikki Lane, Ryan Bingham, Chris Knight, and The White Buffalo would be more current examples.

Unfortunately, while class outlaw does get airplay, most of the newer artists rarely if ever show up on commercial radio, and I was completely unaware of the scope of country music out there until I first signed up for XM satellite radio many years ago and found the "Outlaw Country" channel (currently channel 60). I used to say that I hated country music, but what I really disliked was mainstream pop country, which IMO is cookie-cutter garbage. There's a whole other world of outlaw country/Americana/country rock out there if one goes looking for it.
The new Nikki Lane song is getting heavy airplay on WYEP of late.

Man, the last 30 seconds of this video.....

A hearty :thumb: to both the video and the fact that it's getting airplay.
