It was a build up thoguh of shitty Atari games being released enmasse to the public. ET was just the straw that broke the camels back.E.T. nearly killed the video game industry before it ever really began.

My first system was the 2600. Then got the NES for Xmas of 1988. From there I've been diehard Nintendo with one exception. I got the Super NES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, WiiU, Switch, and the original Gameboy. Only deviation from Nintendo was the PS2.
Still have them all and they all still work minus the 2600

I totally forgot I own a Wii. Or as my wife used to call it when she wanted to play: "that tennis game."

I still want a Wii U. Does it still work well? I thought they killed network features for them so I'm not sure if it would be any good as a console.

I think they just recently shut down the network. I still play the occassional game on it, but honestly, that was the most disappointing Nintendo system IMO.I still want a Wii U. Mrs Tif wanted a Wii with the sports games. I doubted she'd ever play it, and together we amassed perhaps 10 hours in the first month. Before I went to Japan for a work trip, I unplugged the Wii. A few months later, I asked her if she had been playing in her spare time at all and she said YES! It's so fun! I challenged her to a round of golf, and when she went to fire up the console it was still unplugged. I boxed it up that day and sold it through one of those eBay stores.

I got my NES in kindergarten so that would have been around 8. I went NES, Gameboy, Genesis, PS1, Dreamcast, Xbox/PS2 (had both at various times), Xbox 360 (had tons of RROD though)..which then turned me to PS full time, PS3, PS4, PS5.
It's weird that the NES and Gameboy are the only two real Nintendo systems I owned but still have the most nostalgia for me. My friend down the street had an SNES when I had a Genesis so it worked out being able to play both.

All the nostalgia I have for old games is just that. I’m an old gamer and the games out now are so far superior to anything I played in the past. I had more fun running the old arcade games through mame; This was over 20 years ago. I just can’t bring myself to play vintage console games anymore. The tech now where you can record clips and comms is so good. I wish I had some old clips of the games I’ve played in the past.

Sounds like when I ask my kids if they brushed their teeth and they say yes, and then the toothbrush is dry as a bone.Mrs Tif wanted a Wii with the sports games. I agree to a point. I think the 8-bit stuff had the 'easy to learn, hard to master' ethos going for it that makes these game enduring.
There isn't much from the 16-bit and 32-bit era that I'll really miss being able to play, though. Sonic, Mortal Kombat, and maybe NHL94 for pure nostalgia.

Super Mario World is still the best Mario game.

I had a 2600, ColecoVision, Commodore 64, Sega Genesis, PS3, and now an XSX. I was a PC gamer between the Sega and PS3.

I still put Link to the Past from the SNES over Ocarina of Time as the best Zelda game. I love that game so much.
The fun with these old games, and why I enjoy them is that you don't have to spend 80 hours to play them. The pop in and play aspect is what makes them enjoyable IMO. You can spend a few hours and beat the entire game. Even the "long" games like zelda or Metroid are only a few hours.
I mean, nostalgia is definitely a HUGE part of why I enjoy it, but I also just really enjoy spending a few hours over the weekend playing and beating a couple of old NES or Super NES games occassionally.

NES I can still pick up and play lots of games. Most of them are hard as ****, but that system is my childhood system. Genesis I usually play NHL94 and Coach K College basketball. N64 I never really played as a kid (I was a PS1 kid)...so my memories of that is playing over friends houses. SNES I like to play Super Mario World and Turtles in Time, but really if I had to only have one system and games it would by my NES.

I just want to highlight that NAN is the only one that admitted to owning a GameCube.
When that came out against the PS2 I honestly thought Nintendo was pivoting to software only.

Having just replayed it through a couple weeks ago the controls are just so tight. I just wish there were like a "lost levels" version that offered a bit more of a challenge, as the game itself is almost too much of a breeze to move through. Not that I think difficulty is inherently tied to a game's quality, but when everything else is so immaculately presented, you just wanna take advantage of it in a more challenging arena.Super Mario World is still the best Mario game.
I think SMB3 is the best marriage of controls + difficulty. And if anyone had SM64 or SMGalaxy 2 as the best Mario game I wouldn't really bat an eye either.

We had one on demo when I worked at Radioshack. It sat there for years on the menu screen, nobody ever bought one as far as I can recall.

I also own a GameCube. Killer7 and Resident Evil 4 still get playthroughs from time to time, and Super Monkey Ball 1&2 and Smash Bros Melee are still solid "get-together games."I just want to highlight that NAN is the only one that admitted to owning a GameCube.

3 would be up there if the whistles didn't exist. With the whistles it's a quick 20 minute easy win. For me, it's a close race between World and 64 for the top Mario game, which seems crazy given how much I love all 3 of the NES games.Having just replayed it through a couple weeks ago the controls are just so tight. I’m still shocked that at least one person here didn’t buy a Neo Geo.
