Letang > Zubov, IMO.
tough, tough call ... I loved Zubov
As did I. I think Letang’s playmaking was just better, not to mention his skating, which is elite.

I can’t tell if you take issue with my post or dodint’s.

It can't be me. Letang bettered his best season by one point. He also played the most minutes he's ever played. Those correlate pretty closely.

2022 was 68pts in 2011 minutes for .033 points/minute. (this year)
2018 was 51pts in 2001 minutes for .025 points/minute. (next closest TOI)
2016 was 67pts in 1913 minutes for .035 points/minute. (next closest point total)

So his productivity was actually down this year. ;)

I know we **** on Letang a lot, myself absolutely included, but he really did have an outstanding season. I still want to see him signed and finish his career here, alongside Malkin and Crosby.

Yeah, when you factor for age it was a good year. Not sure about the rest of what you said, though.

I should say, if the contract is reasonable. I’m not open to giving him a blank check.

Subtracting from a career high in points because a defenseman managed more minutes is a new low for Letang hate...

I didn't ask for the break down. Just saying it would be worse if he hadn't managed that one more point on 98 more minutes of ice time.

Yeah, but he was also our second best defensive d-man (Ruhwedel) and best relative to the competition that he faced...he had a terrific year. Like, a Norris caliber year if there wasn't a number of superhuman performances from a couple of others...

Yeah, he had a nice one. Hardly played at all last season (17 GP). Just 41 the year before. 18 before that. And it's not like he's playing down in the jungle. He's just a practice player. He might have a WFH job that he can do while at games for all I know...and then he steps in and plays a full season and gave us a generally tidy, predictable 14, 15 minutes every night...

And what an unproductive ride it's been...played AAA in SoCal in his draft year (obviously wasn't on the radar). Just 11 points (0 goals) in the USHL as a 19 year old. As an overager, 22 points. I mean, that'd be nothing special for an 18 year old, much less a 20 year old. Reasonably productive for three years at UMass and a really strong final season there, to be fair. Now, he could be looking at full pension...what a sweet deal that is, I hope he gets there...

I always thought he was pretty solid when he stepped in for spot duty here. I never really noticed him, which is my hope for a guy like him that isn't going to be involved offensively

the problem with Letang is that 95% of the time (this season at least) he is playing like an elite D man but when he makes a mistake it's a whopper that ends up in the back of the net at the absolute worst time. :scared:
that said, I hope he can be resigned but it's got to be at a reasonable price and I say that as a HUGE Geno fan who will be sad if/when he goes to another team.

The 2016/2017 Cup runs created so many great memories. Multiple OT goals (including several at home)...so good.

Weren't the prior requirements for NHL pensions 200 GP and 400 GP, with 200 getting you a lump sum and 400 making you eligible for the full pension at age 62 or at 45 with a reduced amount?

I'm sure there is a lot more to it, but I remember the 200/400 being significant marks for the players when it came to hitting eligibility for their pensions.

And am I correct in assuming that despite being healthy scratched that you still accumulate credited time since you are still considered a roster player?
You become eligible for the pension plan once you’ve skated in your first NHL game, or if you’re a goalie, once you’ve dressed as either a backup or a starter in your first NHL game. Once you become eligible, you’ll receive a game-played for pension purposes for any regular-season game that you’re on the Active Roster, Injured Reserve List, Injured Non-Roster, or have been designated Non-Roster.

In my head, I just equate pension and 400 GP. But there is a sliding scale below that, I just don't know it. I did know the backup goalie part but didn't know the healthy scratch part...good find.

Mike Sullivan finished 8th in Jack Adams voting
1. Sutter (CGY) 353 (54-22-17)
2. Brunette (FLA) 249 (31-26-16)
3. Gallant (NYR) 142 (12-21-19)
4. Evason (MIN) 111 (7-20-16)
5. Bednar (COL) 65 (6-8-11)
6. McLellan (LA) 65 (5-8-16)
7. Brind'Amour (CAR) 41 (2-7-10)
8. Sullivan (PIT) 19 (2-3-0)
9. Hynes (NSH) 14 (1-2-3)
10. Cooper (TB) 12 (1-1-4)

Ten coaches got first place votes. Keefe, Boudreau, Woodcroft, Berube all also received scant consideration...

Brunette and Gallant should be way down on that list for me...
