They're both going to get replaced by Republicans and have a fine career as the devil's advocate on cable shows, while the rest of us quietly complain from our basements in fear of the Gestapo.

I think it's disingenuous to say that they're 'siding with Repubs'. They are siding with moderates...or rather going against an extreme left initiative. These two pieces of **** continuing their trend of holding the rest of the country hostage, along with the GOP:
This is all a bit silly. The left is attempting to silence the minority voice and steal power from the states to consolidate it under a federal banner that they currently control. It doesn't get much more authoritarian/totalitarian than that. Gain power, change the rules, control future elections, never give up power. The fact that you like the party doing it doesn't change the motive.
Imagine, for half a second, if Trump was still in office and the party controls were flipped. I'd guess that everyone in here that is so pissed at Manchin and Sinema would be praising Romney/Cheney as heroes for standing up for 'what is right'. The effort to federalize elections would be and authoritarian power grab perpetuated by a wannabe dictator.
So why isn't it those things just because the Dems are doing it?

This state vs federal thing is such a baseless argument. When states do things we don't like, we like federal rules, when states do things we like, we don't like federal rules. This obviously applies to both sides. But no one is a pure "federalist" or whatever. We just like being able to be selective.Imagine, for half a second, if Trump was still in office and the party controls were flipped. I don't blame Manchin and Sinema for not bending. US politics aren't about compromise. It's not even about running the country. It's about furthering your own agenda, making yourself a "star," and setting yourself up for a huge payday down the road and they've both achieved that goal. Politics is the rich version of people trying to become social media influencers and become famous for doing nothing.
The system is broken. Both sides suck. Nothing is going to change.

Sinema is such a fraud. Manchin is actually representing his constituents and the votes that put him there. But Sinema sucks so god-damn much, no chance she even runs for re-election in 2024.I don't blame Manchin and Sinema for not bending. Politics isn't about compromise. I agree with that. She's a special brand of awful and self serving.Sinema is such a fraud. Manchin is actually representing his constituents and the votes that put him there. But Sinema sucks so god-damn much, no chance she even runs for re-election in 2024.
Manchin's in a tough spot. He's a democrat from one of the Trumpiest/reddest states in the country. It's naïve to think he's going to bend whatever way the democratic wind blows. He loves being in the middle and having both sides stoke his ego while he pretends to be above it all.

Hi... super duper lefty commie checking in. I think all citizens should have free and easy access to voting whether that be via mail in, early voting, absentee voting, or going to a place in person the day of the election and being able to get in and out within an hour or so. If getting rid of the filibuster is the way to get that done, so be it.
k, bye....

Mitch McConnell killed the filibuster to confirm a SC judge less than a week before Trump lost the election.

Indeed. Also, whoever came up with the phrase "defund the police" needs a bullet in the head.
Looking like GOP led everything if these independents voted today.

So geno made a counter point against the filibuster complaint and the reaction here is misdirection to other things the GOP does wrong...? What about the filibuster? Are we done with that now?
Politics And Current Events
The filibuster is stupid and the country went nearly 50 years without it. It functionally changes the necessary votes to pass legislation from 51 to 60 for no reason other than to stop anything from ever getting done. Originally, the talking filibuster gave people the chance to make their case and convince people to their side. Now, it's nothing more than assurance nothing happens, unless you want to carve out special circumstances, but that's only for some people.

Right. The problem is whoever is in control (happens to be Dems today) has underhanded motivation to eliminate it

And let's be honest, a "talking" filibuster would be a total waste of time in today's political landscape. These dadholes already know their vote before a legislation is even proposed
