I don't mind a new team. I just don't like shitty team names.

I was wondering that too...I guess people don't approve of expansion or the allegedly loose ethics of (Las) Vegas...
I hate expansion and wish they would instead contract, but thats not this team's fault. Im hoping its successful because over time they need to generate enough interest in hockey to net 20 more active nhl worthy players.(to maintain the same deficit of nhl caliber players compared to nhl jobs.)

I'm completely against expansion, and their entire naming process has been a complete joke. If/when they fail, I will laugh at that, too.

You mean like Rangers, Canadians, Red Wings, Maple Leafs (leafs?), Flyers, Wild, Stars, ... Steelers, Pirates, Penguins, etc etc etc...

Steelers? Really. That's an awesome name. It's not borrowed from anything except the city itself. Isn't the mockery of the Golden Knights name based on the fact that it's derivative and vague, to the point that they can't even trademark it?

Why is every team called the Wildcats if this was actually a thing...this is pretty innocuous and nonsensical...just let them have their stupid name and logo and get on with it...
and they couldn't counter with two teams in the AHL/ECHL that were previously both in the AHL known as the Admirals?

There are so many good, easy Vegas names and yet they tried the "golden knights". They deserve to fail. So bland and inoffensive

Just Knights would have been ok. Vegas Knights, I like that. Much like the Ducks. **** "mighty".

Why are people so gleeful about bad things happening to this franchise?
because people in traditional hockey markets want to have that feeling of superiority of saying "I knew it!" when the team from the non-traditional hockey market "fails" no matter what the reason for it failing is.

like some folks here I also think expansion is a mistake. like it or not NHL is NOT one of the "Big Four" sports in the USA yet when Vegas officially get rolling the NHL will have 1 more team than both MLB and NBA and only one less team then NFL.

I know what you're saying and agree. If the sentiment were true EPL would be inherently interesting, and it's not.

Just want to add that, from another perspective, more teams means less excitement and goodness of product because there isn't enough talent to go around as it is. Would be great if instead of just adding a team, they shortened the bench at the same time. Would solve a lot of problems right up front.

eh, the EPL has a bunch of other factors bringing it down, primarily the fact that there isn't a salary cap or a draft, which are the main reasons why the same 5 teams dominate every year (excluding Leicester from last year)

but in general, in my opinion more teams increases excitement for only the local area that gets the team but overall worsens the product. Players that should be playing in the Serbian Hockey League will be in the NHL because more roster spots will have to be filled in an already diluted product

And count me in as someone that thinks there will be no local excitement for an ice hockey team in Vegas. If they are pulling numbers even close to the Blue Jackets at their respective 10 year marks I will eat tiff's hat AND mikey's hanger.

yeah, long term I don't know how it's going to be sustainable. After the expansion draft they're going to be a bottom of the barrel team and I doubt they're going to find anyone in the draft worthwhile. It's not going to be successful for a while and at that point, is anyone going to care?

The only thing that supports the notion that they'll be popoular is that it'll be the only pro team in Vegas (that matters) but the same thing can be said about Columbus or Raleigh and they're two of the bottom four in attendance this season
