He not only counts against our protected players list, but we have to keep him.ie He's exempt?Fleury's NMC is the only thing that matters for purposes of the expansion draft...From my (likely incorrect) understanding, Fleury's case is kinda whack because he has a NMC but only a limited NTC. He can't be sent to the AHL but he can be traded to like half the league.
Regardless of any of that jazz, I really dislike having an odd number of teams in the league.

Fleury would have to waive his NMC in order to be left unprotected.
Also interesting to me: Jacob Trouba would have to be left unprotected unless Winnipeg asks Byfuglien, Enstrom, or Myers to waive their NMC.
It's also really hard to do that when they only have current rosters and not current contract situations. Lot of unprotected players becoming UFAs this year or next.

Not sure, really. But they mentioned "deferring" Quebec, which means we could be going through this same routine in a few years, again. That really pisses me the F off.
