Quebecor president and CEO Pierre Dion, following the board of governors' announcement, proclaimed it a "big day for Quebec City," confirming his intent to land an NHL expansion team. He followed through Monday, with Quebecor announcing Monday via its Twitter account that it had submitted an official application.

I don't understand how we won't have an Arizona situation in Vegas in 5 years

Yes to both. I'm also not sure why a professional sports league would want to have a team located in a city known for gambling.

Someone who coached against the Las Vegas ECHL team mentioned that their team went out of their way to get into the city on gameday, presumably to keep the players out of the casinos and brothels.

I have a good friend who lives in Vegas and he swears that there is real yearning in Las Vegas for "normal" entertainment for the non-gambling people who happen to work in other industries and that people will be surprised how well a pro sports team will be supported.

That makes sense. I once had a friend who grew up there... I think a lot of locals yearn for anything approaching normality.

if i'm in town for a weekend, i'd rather see a hockey game than wayne newton (et al). i think that would be a common sentiment.
but the idea of expansion is barf. move the coyotes and call it a day.

Yes. If you can have a local base of 13,000 season ticket holders (which they have) filling the rest of the 5,000 seats should be no issue.
One of the ideas floated is to play their games at prime time ET (5:00pm local MT) that way when the game is over the strip is just starting to open and you can just go to the casinos.

Yeah, I'm sure Kings fans will be thrilled that their team has a 4 pm start against a division rival and they're sitting on the 405 until the 2nd intermission...I get your point, but I'm not sure that 5 MT is the best solution...

To be fair, its unlikely that they'd be on the 405 to go to vegas...i cant imagine it would affect their flight schedule much at all.

I think he meant on their way home from work. As in, they can't even watch it on TV.

Yeah, sorry, I meant for the fans of division rivals to watch the games. Assuming of course they're in the far west. Not the Dallas/Colorado/Minnesota west...

Makes sense. I always forget about the locals out there.

So this makes the conferences 17 for the East and 15 for the West? There is still a discrepancy between the two and that is bologna.

He was in the Air Force and his last duty station was Nellis AFB and he just stuck around after getting out. Liked Las Vegas better than West Virginia.

I don't mind this that much. Ideally, it's even. But I'm not too concerned. What most people would consider to be one of the best times in the league's history (the 1980's), the league housed 21 teams for the duration of the decade I believe...
