I mean, you also want Johnston fired...you can't fire everyone every year...just doesn't work like that...

When did I call for MJ to be fired?

I didn't I was just reporting on the babcock thing

i guess you can say I'd rather have babcock than Johnston which is true but I actually think HCMJ did a great job all things considered

Okay, I'll play this game. What has he done in Pittsburgh that has warranted being fired? I'd like a list of specific things, please.

Well, you were upset that we weren't pursuing Babcock...it's awfully tough to pursue and obtain Babcock without firing another first-year member of your staff...so...you wanted to get Babcock and not fire HCMJ...?

Either way, you wanted Rutherford fired for not pursuing Babcock...so, I don't know, it really just doesn't make sense on the whole...instead the focus seems to be on Simon Despres squarely as that's the only poor trade he made...and if you're firing personnel for one bad move in their first year, well, uhh...woof...

Are you saying it is Rutherford's fault.that everyone got hurt? And that 2 players got hurt at a time that weren't convenient for the team in terms of LTIR?

Nice article on Despres by espn. Sad to see how well he has played with Cam Fowler as the ducks 2nd pairing. We are going to regret that move for years to come.

Well, you could... But I wouldn't recommend it.

That kind of turnover isn't healthy, whether we're talking pro sports or college football

I'm really upset over the despres trade but it's not to want him fired

I just don't think he should have been hired in the first place, he was garbage for Carolina and i dont think that will change here in pittsvirgh

But I hope it does

... so you want to compare his time with a team who cannot physically spend to the cap with a team that has those funds available?

He was handcuffed in Carolina. Couldn't have built a decent team after they won their Cup even if he had wanted to.

You know, I think that Despres is going to be a fine defender - he certainly has the physical talent to do it.

However, I get the feeling based on the OT goal last night + other experience that he isn't the most intelligent / aware player (and that's completely fine). Makes him a fine stay-at-home defender, but you can't really ask a whole lot from him. Have to ensure his game remains simple. Not sure how well that would fit Johnston's system, which seems to ask a lot of the defenders... though we didn't get to see much of the system anyway due to all the injuries.

Spoiler's the OT goal. Despres comes around, "checks" Sharp, then kinda just stands there while the puck moves all around him.

I have no interest in the argument youre having, but if that was his problem, then explain the semin contract.

Asses in seats, and perhaps pressure from ownership. They weren't spending all that much before they signed him.

The hate on Lovejoy is unreal. Both him and Depres are 3rd pairing defenders. Lovejoy was forced into a role this season that was too much for him. Before coming here, he played more than 20 minutes in a game just three times the entire season (twice in December along with his last game in Anaheim). He was forced into playing 23-27 minutes here. Even if Depres was still here the result would have been much the same. That increase in minutes and responsibility will take a toll on any player.
