I figured it wouldn't be long before he and Dan Bylsma were back into a position somewhere in the NHL. Good for him. Best of luck.
Shero to the Devils
We'll see if Shero can actually build a franchise. The Devils have some tools to work with...
- A strong goaltender in his prime in Schneider (he's 29).
- A couple good defensive prospects/youth in Larsson & Severson.
- A couple decent young forwards in Josefson & Henrique, along with a good 2nd-line center in Zajac.
The team is woefully old & lacking in good prospects to replace them. I wonder if they'll go the full-rebuild route or if they'll try to squeeze a few more good years out of players like Elias, Cammalleri, etc.
Maybe I should do the Devils as the next Be a GM thread (or if someone else wants to make it, you're completely welcome to).

Im pretty curious to see if he can build one as well. Im skeptical

Is there any truth to the rumor that Rossi is going to take a job with the Bergen County Record?

The sooner they dump that trainwreck the better...they are one of the most untalented teams in the league...Schneider is great, a couple of the young guys like Larsson and Merrill and even Severson are good...the forwards are just awful as a group...We'll see if Shero can actually build a franchise. The Devils have some tools to work with...

I'll tell ya, I wouldn't want this job...there's so many bloated contracts, so little talent...it's hard to believe it even got to this point...the bonus bucks for the Devils is that Ryane Clowe will likely never play again which will get him on LTIR in perpetuity...that's lucky break #1...let's see what other miracles Shero can pull off...he may have to be the guy that falls on the sword like John Ferguson did for the Leafs...
The Devils already don't draft well...so no pressure there...

Devils could use a guy like Rob Scuderi.
Shero to the Devils
Quoting a couple Devils' beat writers...
Edit: Lebrun's reaction.Lamoriello said the Penguins were very cooperative in allowing Shero to be hired by Devils.
No compensation to Penguins for Devils hiring Shero.
Lamoriello and Shero made a point of thanking Penguins' CEO/President David Morehouse and Pens' ownership.
Devils ownership pushed strongly for Lamoriello to make this move as far as hiring new GM. Picking Shero was his call, though.
Edit #2: Smart call by Molinari. The Penguins have decided they're not going to ask the Devils for a draft pick in return for Ray Shero's hire
Under the new compensation rule, because Shero was still under contract, Pens could have got a pick but won't.
My sense in all this is that there are still many who don't think fired people should warrant picks even if new rule says so...
Will be interesting to see which Penguins staffers follow Shero to NJ. Tom Fitzgerald figures to be a leading candidate.

I could definitely see Fitzgerald moving to New Jersey as Assistant GM.Quoting a couple Devils' beat writers...Edit: Lebrun's reaction.Lamoriello said the Penguins were very cooperative in allowing Shero to be hired by Devils.

Hopefully we can swing a trade for picks for Scuds and Kunitz since the bum loved them so much.
Shero to the Devils
This makes me wonder if Shero will have a new drafting strategy. I think it'll be interesting to see if he drafts more forwardsDevils gonna get a lot of dmen now
( obviously it depends on the devils' needs and who's available )

Devils definitely don't need any more young D, and have almost no talented forwards in the pipeline...he's getting a prospect pool pretty similar to what he had here...
Shero to the Devils
I am guessing if we took compensation for Shero going to NJ the team would still need to pay his contract out? Otherwise it seems kind of stupid to have compensation unless the NHL forsees coaches just walking out now and screwing over teams that had no intention of replacing them.

I was thinking that as well...but the Devils are already old. This Summer: Martin to the Devils.
So that means Shero will trade for Scuderi.

What would the compensation have been in regards to round?
