Another birthday interview :D (translated by DeepL.com)
"I keep myself alive with hockey training, so to speak. I don't need it at fifty, of course. And I didn't have it at forty either. I hope that we won't be sitting here when I'm sixty and we won't be dealing with the same thing," laughs Jaromír Jágr during an interview with Iva Kubelková for the Showtime show on CNN Prima News.

The birthday boy says that it is mainly thanks to his surroundings that he still feels thirty. "I have the advantage of having a lot of young people around me. And not just a partner twenty years younger. All my teammates except Pleky are under twenty-five. That also keeps me mentally elsewhere. What I'm going to do when I put the stick down, I'm not thinking about that yet. When it comes, it will come," he says, adding that he is not planning a big 50th birthday party.

"Celebrating my birthday is definitely not for me. I wouldn't enjoy it. Those who would come would probably enjoy it more. I had an excuse. I thought, I'm not vaccinated, so I can't go. And they cancelled it," Jagr laughs.

He says that everything and nothing makes him the happiest at the moment. "It depends on the day. Sometimes it makes me happy when I'm alone, sometimes the opposite when I have a lot of people around me. Sometimes good food makes me happy, sometimes I don't have to eat and I'm happy too. So you can't put it like that. For example, travelling doesn't make me happy because I'm so lazy, I don't have it in me. My friend Dominika Branišová, on the other hand, wants to travel. You have to adapt there," says the hockey player.

Not many people openly ask him why he doesn't have children yet. "Maybe they talk about it and deal with it when I'm not there. But not that anyone would tell me to my face, no. There is an advantage for a guy that he can have a child later in life. I love children very much. I think there's still time. Not a lot, but there's still time," Jaromír Jagr thinks.

"Of course you want to give something to the child, to devote yourself to it. At sixty, it would probably be too late. I think a parent should be with a child until at least eighteen and give them that foundation in life. It's not heroic to make a child. But to raise him right, that's a bravery," he says.

During the interview, the hockey player also talked about his belief in God. "A lot of people probably wonder why they should believe in some grandpa who sits up in the sky. For me personally, faith is energy. A higher power. I believe that faith, meditation and going to a church where there is a strong energy will clear your thoughts. Just like people wash their bodies, faith cleanses the soul," he explains, adding that in professional sports, every extra percentage of performance at the highest peak level is noticeable.

"When I go to church, I feel like I get much stronger because of it. And I feel the difference when I go and don't go to church and then play a game in the evening."

And not to taint the "Ukraine" post.

Regular reason in the Czech Extraleague is over. Jagr's Kladno Knights finished 14th out of 15 teams, which does not mean an automatic relegation (only the 15th team moves down), but they will have to play a play-out series (best of 7) against the winner of CZE2 league.

In the last 1/4th of the regular season, Jagr played 12 games, without registering a single point (so, in the second half of the regular season he played 17 games, scoring just 1 point). His season totals are:

GP: 43
G: 8
A: 11
PTS: 19

Naturally, he has not scored in the Extraleague as a 50-year old, and, frankly, I don't think he ever will (the play-out series will not count, and given the super sharp decline in productivity, I think retirement is very likely).

And, frankly, if his last serious game was in front of 14,000 people with all proceeds going for a good cause, then this was about the best end one can think of...

Jagr finally got his first point (a secondary assist) in the official game as a 50-year old.

After finishing 14th out of 15 Extraleague teams during the regular season, Kladno Knights had to wait 5+ weeks for the completion of the Czech 2nd League season, and today they played the first play-out game (in the best-of-7) series against the CZE2 winner (HC Jihlava).

Kladno won 6:4. Jagr actually assisted on 5:4 GWG.

Five week break? That’s nuts.
Yep, March 8 (last game of the regular season) till April 17th (1st game of the play-out series). I think the reason is that Extraleague teams want to avoid relegation, and instead they want to maximize chances of winning the title. So, the current system is that 12(!) out of 14 Extraleague teams (15 this year because nobody got relegated last season due to COVID) qualify for play-offs, No. 13 team is completely done by the 1st week of March, and No. 14 team has to wait those 5+ weeks for the completion of 2nd league play-offs to get their play-out opponent...

I agree it's a crazy system...

Jihlava - Kladno 2:7. (Best of 7 series: 1:3)

Jagr with no points. Plekanec with 2g + 3a.

Jihlava's Russian G (and their by far best player) Maxim Zhukov speared an opponent when the game was 1:1. Klano scored 2 goals in the 5-minute power play, and the rest was history. If Zhukov gets an additional suspension (likely), Kladno would be a big favorite to wrap up the series on Monday.

Game 4 of the play-out series was one of the rare games I semi-watched (on mute on my secondary computer, occasionally checking whether something interesting happened), but I don't even recall seeing him in the game. He played, but was simply invisible.

I think his age very much caught up with him this year. Czech Extraleague regular season has 56 games. In the first half, he had very respectable stats:

GP: 26
G: 7
A: 11
PTS: 18

And here is the terrible 2nd half:

GP: 17
G: 1
A: 0
PTS: 1

At least in the play-out series, he has 2 points (both assists) in 4 games. But he still has not scored a goal since Christmas(?)

For his own good, I hope he retires this season...

Kladno - Jihlava 6:3, series 4:1

Kladno keeps its Extraleague participation for 2022/23 season.

Jagr without points today; 0+2 in the 5-game series.

Interestingly, Kladno played 56 regular season games and 5 play-out games. Kladno goalie Landon Bow started all 61 games, and completed all but 4.

was the Kladno outdoor game this upcoming year or did it already pass? I seem to remember Jagr saying that he was already committed to that game. Not that he couldn't change his mind, but I thought that was indirectly his "will he be back?" answer.

(apologies for not doing the work on this and trying to google it, but I've been flagged on back to back .cz pages in the office.)

You nailed it! The game was cancelled TWO years in a row - both times because of Covid - and "Sport" daily just wrote that "'according to their sources' (a) Jagr is ready to play one more year and (b) the outdoor game is a factor.

Also:
Jagr on next season: I'll keep training. And if I don't play, at least I'll lose weight
April 25, 2022 22:17

Thanks to Jaromir Jagr, Kladno will continue to enjoy the league. Will Kladno Kladno also enjoy Jagr? There is a lot of hope, the legendary eight-sixty has not announced the end of his stunning career after a successful barrage.

"I'll prepare as if I'm going to start. And if I'm not going to play, at least I'll lose weight," laughed the hockey idol who defies the calendar after Monday's 6:3 win over Jihlava. Jagr, the owner who plays in the barrage, started as a 50-year-old and his Knights dominated it 4-1.

What did the barrage say about your form?
It showed me something. That we have some excellent players. And the rest of us are fighters who sometimes get the puck mixed up (laughs). I'm one of them. Really. A couple of players went up a lot during the barrage.

Will you continue then?
I really don't know. I have to think, see what players we have, who's available. And I believe we'll build a solid team.

Do you have the appetite?
It's hard to say if you have the appetite. I get tired every game. On the other hand, when I'm part of the training sessions, I know when the team is tired, when it's not, whether to step up in training or not. Then it is much better to make tactics, how we should play. Because I can feel it. For a coach it's hard, it's something else to see it from the bench and play.

Do you have a managerial outlook for next season?
I've been thinking about it all the time, kind of piecing it together during the season. The big advantage is that a lot of players who are here want to continue. And the ones we knew signed elsewhere have played well. To the max! Hats off to them. Whether it's Head or Baranek. We knew they were going elsewhere in a month, and the barrage was great on their part.

And excellent from captain Tomas Plekanec. What did you say about his performance? If he is not the best player in the league, he is certainly the most useful. Not only does he produce points, score goals and make assists, but he also has tremendous ice time. Every shorthanded, every important goal. He's 25 minutes a game. I don't think there's another more useful player in the league. And Adam Kubik grew game by game after the New Year. Maybe he's knocking on the door of the national team. They should try him. The first line decided the barrage.

Will Plekanec continue?
Leave it to us.

How was the playoffs?
We knew it would be tough, and we didn't know how to approach it. We had forty days without a live game, but I think we trained very well. Still, it was really a lot about luck. All the games went into the last third. Except for the fourth game, which was due to the goalie Zhukov getting sent off.

During the long break, you relied on drills. Why?
I don't think I had many supporters in the booth. But mathematically I told myself that if we were as tired as the opponent, I believe we would make it. I wanted us to train the same way they play. We didn't miss a single practice, sometimes we had two a day.

You scored the winning goal at 4:3 on a power play thanks to Aries.
We went on the power play with a stacked lineup, nobody knew where to be. Sometimes that's a good thing. If we don't know what we're going to play, how can the opponent know? It was luck.

Is it nice to celebrate the rescue at home, even in the asylum of Chomutov?
Absolutely. Hats off to our fans, especially in the barrage they came to see us, we sold out every game. They also supported us all year if they could make it. It's not a short trip, an hour and a quarter from Kladno. Going back and forth to see us when they finish work at five, hats off to them. We thank them for that.

Jagr saved by God and KIA.

Dear fans, but also everyone else. I would just like to briefly tell you what happened today when I was part of a traffic accident. It was my fault. I was trying to cross from one direction to another on Plzeňská Street. I was checking the other side and at the right moment I drove into it. But there was a lot of traffic and I didn't have time to react to a tram that was going at high speed in the same direction as me. I spotted it half a metre in front of me, at the last moment. I thought that was the end of me. I have always believed that a higher power has a protective hand over me, and today I was convinced of that again. Thank God! And I was also surprised and actually saved by my KIA, which despite how scary it looked, I climbed out of unharmed. But most importantly, the passengers on the tram were unharmed. I would like to end this sad event with this. And I thank everyone for their understanding and also for helping those who intervened at the scene.

And, interestingly, it looks like he WILL play next year!

I know some of you won't believe this, but I'm really looking toward next season. How are you KLADNO guys looking forward to it? Pleky has a dream to get into the playoffs with Kladno, shall we try to make it happen for him together?

Jagr to play for yet another season (2021-22)!!!

Postby Tomas » Wed Jun 15, 2022 4:43 pm

This podcast allegedly talks about Jagr's gambling:

Betting icon takes a swipe at Jagr: He owes me a bundle! His mom took the phones

He has never made a secret of his penchant for gambling. It is no secret that Jaromír Jágr used to be a regular visitor to casinos, where he often lost huge sums of money. He was also no stranger to betting on sports. In fact, the current Kladno boss was heavily backed by the famous bookmaker and betting expert Stu Feiner, to whom he reportedly still owes thousands of dollars from losing bets. "Jagr owed me about 1.3 million dollars at one point," said the well-known sports betting personality.

If anyone is unfamiliar with the name Stuart Feiner, believe me, the Long Island native has become a household name in the sports betting industry. He has been a betting expert since the 1980s and is even referred to as a pioneer and innovator in the industry.

He has earned millions of dollars with his often accurate betting tips, which have earned him the nickname "The Source". But at one point, he was also able to squander equally huge sums of money, which also made him famous.

Feiner, whose life story inspired the movie "Maximum Limit" starring Al Pacino, also helped a number of famous athletes - hockey players included - gamble on sports with his betting agency.

Among them was Jaromir Jagr , with whom the successful bookmaker reportedly had his own experiences. In the popular hockey podcast Spittin' Chiclets he mentioned his experience with the Czech hockey player. And according to Feiner, it wasn't a good one.

"Yeah yeah, Jaromir Jagr, that son of a dodint. Jaromir, **** you! You still owe me $60,000, you son of a dodint!" Feiner started the story pretty hard. The now 60-year-old betting expert went back to the early 1990s when he met the then young Pittsburgh star.

At the time, Jagr was supposedly betting through another bookmaker, with whom he allegedly lost $1.3 million. "He was betting $100,000 a game. One bookie told me he was terrible, that maybe I could help him. So I called him," Feiner said.

After the seasoned "handicapper" advised the future most productive European in NHL history, Jagr was set to win roughly $130,000. But according to Feiner, the Kladno big man subsequently stopped communicating and was reluctant to pay for the bookmaker's services and losing bets.

At one point, Jagr even owed $1.3 million. "He extorted money from us, and then he didn't pay us. I called his house about 20 times, but every time his mom, who he lived with, answered and kept saying she was going to call the cops. He didn't even have the balls to pick up the... phone again. He wasn't friendly to us at all. But my impression is that he subsequently lost twelve consecutive $100,000 bets," Feiner revealed on the podcast.

Newest Jagr interview:

Pictures and video here:
https://www.idnes.cz/zpravy/revue/spole ... uk_diskuse

Incredibly good translation using DeepL.com here
The legend designation? That word excuses my performance, Jagr thinks

Jaromír Jágr (50) has recently embarked on a business career and launched his own brand JJ68. These are products that the hockey player believes will contribute to an active and relaxed lifestyle. In an interview with iDNES.cz, he spoke not only about his activities, but also reminisced about his legendary hairstyle.

You are marketing products with harmless cannabis. This was preceded by your pain, which you fought thanks to cannabis. Why have you now decided to share this help with others?

To explain. I've been using this product for the last two years, but not before. However, I have felt pain on a daily basis throughout my career. I trained extremely and had no problem with it. But the body speaks up and its speech is clear. Either you're happy, that means everything is good. Or your body is bothered and doesn't want you to keep doing it. And that's the negative body language, that's the pain. You know you have to, but at the time, you didn't have many options to silence the pain, so you used cold showers, painkillers. But I don't think that's ideal. It's much better here, or at least it works for me.

How disciplined is your diet when you have a looser regimen?

Problem! I have an absolute problem with that. I love food, junk food. When you're twenty, twenty-five years old, you're in top shape, your metabolism is great and fast, you can get away with a lot of the wrong things by letting your metabolism or your body sort it out for you. At an older age, it's already a problem. So, once the hockey season is over, I stop training like I used to during the season, I start exaggerating. At least I've got five, six extra pounds now. It's only been a month. But it's because I love food and sweets.

What do you think of hockey's current new talent? The Czechs just took bronze.

We've been waiting ten years for a medal to happen. I think it's the right thing to do, a step forward. An important step for different reasons. To get more kids into hockey, to get them playing sports after the covid era. A lot of kids don't have the movement they used to have and any sporting success will make them start playing more sports.

They call you a legend. Is that an honor or just a reminder of your age?

They call you a legend and of course it means that you're over it, that what you're doing on the ice isn't the same anymore. But you are the legend. So I take it more that people use the word legend to excuse my performance. I mean, he was good. (laughs)

How would you describe in a nutshell the 90s when you went to the U.S.?

Nineties. A tremendous freedom in everything. I always thought that the most important thing for people was to be free, to have freedom of choice and freedom of any kind. For us it was doubly so. 1989, suddenly the borders were open, you could go wherever you wanted. You could decide how you wanted. You didn't have to obey or follow some directive that was predetermined. So for me it opened the door to go abroad and anywhere. Views, things I'd never even seen before. So those were my early years in the '90s. Of course, I went to play in the '90s in America, experienced a new world, new hockey. Everything completely new and more challenging.

Which products give you the most energy?

So the most energy is the pre-workout. I'm a lover of not only sweets, but coffee. So there are days when I'll drink, like, eight, ten coffees. But sometimes my body says no, too, or I don't even like it that much. But I love it. So that caffeine will totally replace the pre-game, I call it a kicker. It's a pre-workout, but it's kind of a kicker. It's an instant kick and you can perform at your best. It's all legal, natural.

Turning back to the unhealthy stuff, does Dominica have to know how to make the proverbial schnitzel?

I love steaks. It depends on how you make them, too. If you're making them greased and fried, I like my mom's best. Nobody used to deal with it the way it's dealt with now. So it's food prep and food. It can be the same food, but you prepare it completely different and healthier. And that's where Dominika is good at, she was interested in it, she always dealt with it. I'm not the one who demands it. I just prefer to warm up sometimes, but I prefer the taste.

When you look at old photos of yourself from the early 90s, what do you think of your hairstyle in retrospect? Because it's a hit in pop culture now.

Yeah, right. It's all coming back. Maybe I should take out the stuff I wore in the '90s. If I didn't throw it away. I'm sure I'll have something, if not here, then in America. It's funny when you look at the pictures, but everybody wore it back then. I loved music. We didn't have the opportunity to listen to foreign music, heavy metal bands in the '90s. Suddenly there was Bon Jovi, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, Metallica,... These were bands that I loved and suddenly I had the opportunity to go to their concerts. So when I had the opportunity, I never missed a show. I used to go to rock band concerts, well, they had their haircut at the time - long hair. And I think that was one of the main reasons I had them too. Because I loved the bands here and all the singers or members wore a similar style.

And then outside of that metal, you were also captivated by the singers Sandra, Sabrina, Samantha Fox. But I guess that's something else...

I got into that a little bit earlier. But that was about something else.
