Does that start at exactly the 5 minute mark? Maybe 6 minutes some games? What about when the team that's winning isn't getting calls anymore? Is that when they get up by 3? 4? This is all stemming from the Peel comments btw, we know nothing gets called at the end of playoff games. Whatever. Sids on my side, he asked for more consistency too. Take that

I just mean that everyone says the same thing..."consistency"...and then someone drums up a thing that they really want enforced, then everyone hates it or it has terrible consequences...

Out of the big sleep: no touching. So, defensemen got their brains splattered all over, Manhattan because you couldn't interfere at all with players coming in on the forecheck. Everyone died. Enforcement reverted.

One of the playoffs a decade ago: hard enforcement of changes. There were ~23 too many men penalties in the first round that year, everyone complained. Enforcement reverted.

A few years ago: Any stick that gets parallel to the ice, you're going for a hook. What's the primary complaint on most broadcasts? "Eehhh, wasn't much there..." Enforcement still kind of stands there, surprisingly, to be fair...

So every time they dive in on something, and start really trying to "enforce the rulebook", the same players and coaches that ask for consistency go, "hey, can you use your head a little...? We don't need 80 interference calls a game."

There's a rules committee, competition committee, there's a hierarchy in the officiating community, playoff series have supervisors, every game is taped at multiple angles and kept forever...if anyone was ever serious - since seemingly everyone wants the same thing - if anyone or anyones were ever serious about making a change, it's all there, it's all in front of them, all of the resources are available...and this isn't some lame "get out and vote" nonsense that never works, these people that are allegedly upset have direct access to all of this...they have chosen this.

You're reading too far into this. I'm merely talking consistency within the same game. If you call something in the first, call it in the second. If a ticky tack bump into the goaltender wasn't called early, don't call it next period because that team hasn't taken a penalty yet and they're due for a power play..

Anyway, you're the hockey equivalent to me being a baseball purist and I respect that. It's just frustrating at times, seems like they're still in the last century

Nah, I don't disagree with that...I'm just saying it sounds easier than it looks. I'm a big believer that if a team is doing work and they're drawing calls, there's no governor on it...my arm is going up. I've also never reffed in a league where gate receipts maked it or breaked it...so I can't speak how that all works...

But as a fan, I have an "acceptable range" where I take or leave the penalty...if it's outside of that, I might say something...other than that, if you're in that range (think that Price Is Right game where Bob says that they can't restart the game for 24 hours if you tell it stop at the wrong time, there's a red, transparent window that slides up a list of prices, I forget the name), I'm generally content...

I bet I talk to my TV more about icings than I do about penalties...

I think the games are called very consistently right now, honestly. I almost never have issues with penalty calls. And I agree with mikey, icings get me fired up more than anything nowadays.

I did see the penalty call that Peel made. It was terrible. I have no problem with his thought process, but got dang man, pick a better spot to make your soft call.

Honestly, I don't want overtime called the same way as the first period. Unless you want to call the first the same way you call overtime. But people like powerplays and goals.

Philly GM is super glad that he didn't extend Hart yet. His next cap hit goes down with every game.

Watching Rangers-Craps on NBC. They did a whole discussion about the cheapshot artist Wilson with Eddie O assailing Wilson for not playing with his stick on the ice and making dumb decisions with the way he hits. Boucher counters with his opinion that 30 other teams would be lining up to get him on their team because he's productive. I was hoping one of them would bring up the point that you can be a tough guy that's a huge asset to your team without taking cheap shots and cited people like Keith Tkachuk or Scott Stevens or Darius Kasparaitis.

Then, Eddie lost all of his brownie points when Oshie got the puck shot off his face (awwww) and it dribbled toward the goal line (didn't cross). Before seeing any replays, Eddie goes, 'from my vantage point, that puck looks like it crossed the line'. Ummm, Eddie, you're watching from your home office. You're seeing the same thing we're seeing on our screens. Just wait for the replay...which proved him wrong.

I only watch half the pens games anymore because of the streaming experience and limitations (and no fans stinks). It’s possible I would just stop watching altogether if Wilson was on this team.

I am thinking about only watching away games. The wooing is **** obnoxious, jumping through my ass to illegally stream it (because the NHL isn't willing to sell to in market fans in 2021) just to deal with that **** is becoming a bridge too far.
