good question.

I’ll start out by saying that I would have stopped that because I would have been on my feet

there 100% are goals I gave up were I would audibly say “whoa.” sometimes you just get smoked. and lots of goaltending on bad angle shots is giving the shooter a small window or two and basically tell them “good luck.” then Hughes says “yeah that’s easy. let that pipe sound clang around your brain a bit”

there isn’t a great all-encompassing answer. the only goals I was never ok with were ones that made it through me. unacceptable every single time.

RVH and the amount of players that can make that shot these days is one of the main (and most hidden) reasons that scoring is up...I've been saying that for years now. Goaltenders play the odds more than ever now, but the odds are slipping out from under their knees...

EDIT: Heh, it's actually a far side shot and it might go in because Blackwood is trying to stop that shot that I was talking about...the best players are always a step ahead...

I can only dream of being able to hit opposite corner from that angle, without catching a piece of the goalie.

First slap shot I never saw made me realize I didnt have the right mindset to be a goalie. and that was the end of that.

I guess it's true that it depends on style but watching the replay it looks like Blackwood hugs the post but is also low. I get frustrated, possibly ignorantly, when goalies get too small and give up an upper shelf goal like that. It feels like on low shots you have more things to stop it (pads, stick, skate) vs high where you really only have your shoulders unless you can get your glove/blocker up fast enough which is tough. I always believed that typically goalies are taught similar to batting a bunt in baseball...it's easier to start high and then go down then start low and go up

idk, feels like a flaw in the butterfly style and maybe it's one that's well-understood by those in the know

I’ve watched the replay a couple times. He’s not going for your knee, Elvis.

Yeah, not that I give a **** what happens to Wilson but, from what my old eyes saw, it looked like Wilson was pushed and then tripped over Merzlikins' ankle. I didn't see any knee contact or an attempt at one.

I don’t care how you feel about Wilson or the Caps, that picture is bad ass.
