tsn.ca had Bozak listed as 3 years, $5M total, $1.67AAV. They also have Cole listed as an RFA. Maybe their IT department had a party last night and there is a little hair of the dog needed.

I met EJ Hradek at the draft, thinking it would provide me a little different perspective on him...not really.

I did, but subtly, so he didn't really understand...

On the plus side, I met Razor from the Stars telecasts...he is larger than life and such a nice guy, as nice as you'd expect...

There are reports that some teams offered Tavares up to $13m per. I'd love to know which teams those were. Philly apparently inquired about him and he told them to **** off, lol.

Seriously. If you asked me "Will John Moore be in the league in 4 years?" I would have easily put down cash against it with reasonable odds. Smart by him to not bet on himself, take that guaranteed cash...kind of like the guy we signed...

He can skate, so if you're signing guys just because they increase the mobility on your back line, fine...but he is not a good player...

I don’t know Toronto’s cap situation but that seems like a hefty hit with Matthews and Marner due for contracts soon.

They apparently still have something like $25m in cap space this season.

Tsn or someone had a graph up of what taxes (including local and state) did to the earnings. The difference in what ends up in the players pocket was quite extraordinary.

That's a good point regarding the tax situation. You always wonder how many times the taxation level has been the tiebreaker for an athlete making that decision. The Philly wage tax is no joke, close to 4 percent which is higher than the state.

why are the teams breaking up the salary with signing bonus?

Is it taxed differently?
Does it have anything to do with how the compliance buyout is paid during the next lockout?

It’s my understanding that players want it this way in case there is a lockout again and salaries get rolled back. I believe the signing bonuses are protected against a potential salary rollback.

Was watching the Dangle video on JT and he said it was indeed structured that way so he will have salary during a lockout.

I'm kind of surprised it's allowed. Like it makes total sense but would have thought there would be some kind of percentage cap on those.
