He's a game changer and a 40 game suspension risk at the same time.

Apparently over half of Wilson's salary is in signing bonuses, making it virtually buyout-proof
Indeed. It's a very weirdly structured deal.

2018-19: $5MM bonus, $1.1MM salary, $6.1MM total
2019-20: $3MM bonus, $1.5MM salary, $4.5MM total
2020-21: $2MM bonus, $2.1MM salary, $4.1MM total
2021-22: $3MM bonus, $3.1MM salary, $6.1MM total
2022-23: $2MM bonus, $2.1MM salary, $4.1MM total
2023-24: $1MM bonus, $5.1MM salary, $6.1MM total

I don't recall seeing total compensation undulate like that before. $15MM of $31MM is signing bonus. Also had a 10 team no trade list in 2020-21 and 2021-22 and a 7 team no trade list the final two years.

The Caps did all kinds of stupid stuff with this deal.

Buyouts look rather "normal" in the later years (2021 etc)

Sens give Stone a 1-year, $7.35m contract. He's done in Ottawa after this season, it seems.

That was my first thought, as well. Glad we're not paying him that.

So caps' plan is to just pay everyone?

They did that last offseason, and it worked, so I guess that's good. I really think they're poised for an epic SC hangover and not be relevant again during Ovechkin's tenure.

Stone is one of the, what, best five RWs in the game? Top-7? Something like that, right? Doesn't seem too too crazy...

Assuming that you're serious, here's who I'd have ahead of him, in no particular order:

Kessel
Kucherov
Kane
Laine
Tarasenko
Dadonov
Pastrnak
Rantanen
Granlund

He's way, way, way ahead of Dadonov...he's ahead of Rantanen, even though Rantanen had a good season last year, he's better than Granlund...

So: Kane, Kucherov, Tarasenko, Laine, Pastrnak sure...Kessel, I guess...and then Stone has to be there...he's also the best defensively by a mile vs. anyone on that list...by a mile...

Yeah. That’s a fair deal for Stone. He’s kind of a wizard out there

Maybe he can buy himself a helmet that fits with all that money.

Eh. That contract will go until Gibson is 34, is straight salary with no signing bonus, and he was the only reason the Ducks had a chance in hell last year. Top five-ish in cap hit, top ten-ish in annual salary, but guys like Murray and Holtby are up soon. It’ll age well.

I like the bridge for Karlsson. Do it again and you'll get the long term big $. Show that it wasn't an extraordinary one-off.

I've always thought he looks weird in his equipment, like it's all a few sizes too big for him.
