*shrug*

He's a great player, and it's good for the game when the great players win.
And Tom Wilson won too. Wilson winning supersedes Ovi winning.

There are plenty of garbage players with their name on the Cup. Dan Carcillo comes to mind immediately.

Sid and Jake finish tied for fourth in playoff scoring despite not playing for a month. **** lack of scoring depth.
Not that I have a reason to not believe you, but I fact checked this because it's so funny. Tied for 5th in scoring, actually, and 4th and 5th in goals. Which is not really less funny, tbh.

The whole who is a better play sid or ovie was settle a long time ago. Both are generational talents who leads their teams to a stanley cup but sid will go down as the best player from this generation and its not even close.
Don't be so sure about that, I've stayed away from the other boards that involve fans from other teams - I have no doubt that this cup win will be enough for them to make the statement that Ovie is and always has been better than Sid.

After all, Ovie has a Cup and Sid only has 3.
Strictly an imo thing, but playmakers who can score goals should always be given deference to specialist goal scorers in reckoning. In the latter, you need to add at least one other quality player to their line to make them effective. In the case of the former, they make all four other skaters on the ice more dangerous. They're force multipliers.

The only two 'goal scorers' I've been diehard fans of were Bossy and Lafleur, whose games I only know from archival footage.

i don't think we chocked, Trotz made a very smart coaching adjustment in the middle of the series (forget which game it was). It didn't completely shut us down but was enough to give the capitals the advantage in the series.

As much as people hate the capitals, you have to give them credit because they kept bouncing back and their guys got over the hump of not winning the big games. (this was the crack against us too until we went on the run 2 years ago) Also i had no problem watching the best goal scorer of his generation win a stanley cup with the team that draft him and he has given everything too.

Internet is saying that Orpik is still a great player. Because he scored a goal.

I can only imagine how many “Ovechkin is now the best” hot takes that have been written in the last 12 hours.
Yeah, I've seen better than Sid, better than Jagr and better than Bobby Hull...all very impressive...

You have to admit, Ovechkin is definitely the best Russian captain to ever win the Cup.

The only part of this that really affects me is the Kornheiser crew, who just discovered hockey at the beginning of the ECF, are acting like this is some giant win for DC and their 30 years of futility is over. Three days from now they will have forgotten and will be talking about the Redskins QB situation.

Kornheiser's still on? What? Is Fabulous sports babe on after him?

Is he still talking about how his daughter is doing at Cornell?

I posted this on FB
Dear Caps Fans,

I have some advice.

Cry.

Watch all of this and take it all in. You have NHL Network? Try their coverage too. They'll have new stuff until 1-2am probably. Watch it all. And tomorrow when you wake up, watch it again. All summer.

Go to the parade.

Go to the rally.

Get your picture with the Cup.

Your hockey team is valid all summer. You get to watch ALL the hockey this year. Enjoy every minute of this.

That's what we do...

The Washington Capitals are Stanley Cup Champions

Love,
Matt

P.S.
**** You...
Most responses were in good fun. This one however takes the Cake...
I can understand being disappointed that you’re hockey team lost, but there’s no reason to be so inconsiderate and unsportsmanlike. That’s one thing I can’t stand about fans of sports teams who make a point to “boo” winning teams simply because you don’t like them. Get over it. Be kind. Be happy for them. Then start over again next season with a fresh attitude.
.... what?

I should note she's an evangelical who subscribes to Red Pill so this isn't really a surprise.

Reading this reminded me all over again about that sanctimonious waste of bandwidth that was written by some dadhat after the Caps beat the Pens.

I sure as hell hope not.
Leonsis would hold off raising the official banner until November if it meant they could raise it in front of the Pens.

They’ll raise an interim banner commemorating the parade by the end of next week.

This really sucks. The Eagles winning the SB pretty much prevented me from enjoying anything NFL-related all summer, and now this will do the same to hockey.
Two awful blows in only 6 months.

I'm sure they will, but Smith-Pelly will likely skip it.
Interesting quote here from Devante Smith-Pelly re: visiting the White House:
“The things that he spews are straight-up racist and sexist. Some of the things he’s said are pretty gross … It hasn’t come up here, but I think I already have my mind made up.”

The caps are already better than the pens at this.

Sullivan’s, “we’re going because reasons” thing last year was not appreciated.

Oshie is a f*** boy, but f*** boys win almost every year. And Trotz’s befuddled old man routine whenever his players are challenged by the media isn’t THAT different from what most other coaches do. And every city, without exception, has awful fans. And I still like Kuznetsov.

So aside from alleged date rapist Tom Wilson winning, this isn’t really a big deal. I don’t really know why I cared so much. Maybe because the decision was in doubt and the suspense was a problem. But less than one day removed from their win...whoop dee doo. Go win a few more and erase your embarrassing history and then we’ll invite you to the grown up table, caps.

Vegas still plans to hold a parade for the Knights. Which is fine. They really brought the city together after a horrible incident.

I think they tried to take the high road and simply minimize the event by keeping quiet, holding their noses, and going, but it didn't work imo. I wonder if they thought that, by not going, it would overpoliticize things and exacerbate the partisan divide, since Burkle is a well-known major dem donor and good friend of the Clintons, and Morehouse worked in the Clinton Administration and on the Kerry and Gore campaigns.

I still like to think the golf bag gift was subtle trolling.

For some reason, I'd bet my house they regret going and wouldn't go if they won this year. I'm unsure how to articulate this properly and in more precise terms, but as "bad" as the climate and events were last year, they're worse this year, and other organizations have set an example.

I think that's cool, actually, and acknowledges the unprecedented nature of their season. What a blast it would be to attend.
