Tony Hrkac is a guy I remember, primarily for his Hrkac Circus (that rhymes in case you didn’t know) line at UND. He won the Hobey Baker.

Hrkac played mostly with the Blues but got his name on the cup with Dallas.

He was actually quite a talent...was a bigger fan of the sauce though, as if you couldn't tell from that mug shot...

Blaine Lacher, aka the Lock Nets Monster was a one season wonder with the Bruins in 1994-95 in his rookie season out of Lake State with a 2.41 GAA. He pretty much fell off the face of the planet after that.

In Lake State's 1994 National Championship season, Lacher set the NCAA consecutive minutes shutout streak of 375 minutes and 1 second in 1994. It still stands today.

Let's keep the alliteration going after Kelly Kisio and Mario Marois, and remember my main man Tony Twist. Twist is best known for his time with the Blues, and in particular the Mike Keenan mid-90s era Blues. He also spent 4 seasons with the Nordiques.

Tony was the quintessential enforcer of NHL past. Twist put up a sparkling .06 points per game with a line of 10-18-28 over 445 NHL games. The Twister, of course, is not known for his scoring, but rather his heavy right hand and willingness to destroy souls. Here's a piece from 1998 describing his reputation:
He is 6' 1 1/2", 240 pounds of pure deterrence. Thanks to the Twister's lurking presence, Blues snipers such as wings Brett Hull and Geoff Courtnall enjoy much more elbow room. "The respect he gets on the ice for our team is huge," says Courtnall. The momentum swing that a Twist ass-whuppin' can bring is, likewise, considerable. "When there's a good fight, everybody on both benches is standing up watching," says Courtnall.

"But with Twister," Hull interjects, "the fight's over beforeyou get a chance to stand up."

"He throws hammers," says San Jose Sharks right wing Owen Nolan, who also played with Twist on the Nordiques in the early 1990s."He throws to kill. I've seen him crack a helmet with a punch. If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it."

"It's not complicated," says St. Louis right wing and fellow tough cookie Kelly Chase, of Twist's fighting style. "He holds you at arm's length and rocks you with big, hard rights."

"You don't want to see him looking at you the wrong way," admits Los Angeles Kings heavyweight Matt Johnson. "No one in the league matches his pure punching power. He's an honest player but as tough as they come."
The Twister is a guy I remember.
Ha, cool fact: he sued Todd McFarlane for using his name for a Spawn character and won a million. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9HT_JlZL7DA

according to wikipedia, he originally won a settlement worth $15m.

McFarlane appealed twice and lost, but eventually settled out of court for $5m.

Nah, I think he said he was burned out from the long playoff runs and needed a break after Washington won. He posted until the Cup Final. Which was months after C-dawg was nixed...at least that's my recollection...

Matt Cullen's brother Mark briefly played in the NHL, scoring 7 goals and 17 points in 38 games. He played parts of three seasons with Chicago, Philly, and Florida.

I thought he played a lot more than 38 games and was in the NHL more recently than 2011.

MOAR ALLITERATION

MOE MFING MANTHA

Image

Moe played 656 games in the NHL, putting up 81-289-370 with 501 PIM. His best statistical season came with the 85-86 Pens, when he scored 15 goals and 52 assists for 67 total points. He also spent time with the Jets, North Stars, and Flyers. He had a moustache.

Moe Mantha is a guy I only vaguely remember.

since we're doing alliteration:

Toni Tanti just missed out on the first era of Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh, having been traded out of Pittsburgh at the '91 trade deadline for Ken Priestlay. He only played 83 games here but scored 50 points, numbers that weren't terrible but were far from what he was putting up in Vancouver.

The only thing I remember about Tony Tanti is that he wore #9 (see above) and had the typical 80s mullet.

It's impossible to think that Moe Mantha could have been born without a moustache...that's the most moustache-having name in history...

alliteration part 3

Mario Marois played almost 1000 games in the NHL with five teams. He had two stints with both the Nordiques and the Jets, including one stint where he wore the C. I don't remember much about him at all except when I first heard his name years ago I thought it was Mario Marios.

(I really wanted to post this past Sunday on Mario Day.)

Pat Verbeek aka the Little Ball of Hate is a player I remember, mostly as a Whaler. He is the only NHL player to date with 500 goals and 2500 PIM. Won the cup with Dallas.

I would always trade for him on the Sega.

I remember both of those guy.

I always thought Nagy was in the NHL for a lot longer than 435 games. Looking at his hockeydb page, it looks like he was in the NHL for 8 seasons and only played more than 70 games three times. I don't remember him being constantly injured, but maybe he was.

He was really brittle...also, he has a Hungarian name...

Branko was a player I actually rather liked...
