It's eastern NC. Just be glad it's not a catchers mitt.

I would not wear that for ice hockey

For roller hockey, your muscles should be more than enough to protect you from those limp wristed fairies. Well…my muscles would protect me. Not sure about weenie’s birdcage chest.

Yeah, I didn't really even look at the picture, as soon as I saw "right glove" I closed the tab...

I'd still recommend sidelineswap...

They should have re-education camps for full right gloves. They won’t get into heaven playing that way.

Gotta love when some numbnut who decides not to wear shin pads in dek gets pissed off when someone inevitably catches him in the shin.

Plant, grow.

Thinking about it more, it really takes a special kind of stupid to willingly not wear shin pads while playing hockey then complain about getting hit in the shins.
I basically just pay recreational pickup dek at this point (Bloomfield, baby), but even when I played in lower leagues, I only just rocked the soccer shinpads (but the ones with ankle guards, so you know, bonus). Haven't had any issues so far....

I also play soft-euro style to keep myself away from the riffraff, so maybe that helps.

We have enough guys who wear soccer shin pads, and most are well aware and accepting of the risk. It's also not like we're actively trying to shin people. This guy, had he been wearing any shin pad, would've been fine.

I haven't seen the guy who complained about it since, and to date he's been the only person we've seen actively choose not to wear any shin pad.

I want my nieces to paint my new goalie mask. What type of paint should I get for it? Assuming I can use a paint other than spray paint

You...you're a goalie....?
apparently, no

my brothers were in town this weekend for Thanksgiving and I convinced one that hasn't played hockey in 10+ years to come out (I've played with my other one a few times over the last year or so). I thought we might have had enough gear for 3 skaters but we didn't, so I decided to suit up as a tendy. Note that I never even tried on the gear before, let alone practice. Last time I played goalie on ice was when I was about 10 years old; so 20 years ago

get to the rink, struggle to put on my gear. The leg pads are a little too big, the pants and upper body gear are way too big. I couldn't strap on my own helmet because I couldn't get my arms up. I skate out on the ice and chat wit hthe other goalie. Tell him I haven't played in 20 years, he says "good luck...oh and your pads are on the wrong legs". My stupid ass thought the padding on the side of the leg pads goes on the outside of the leg, not the inside. I quickly realized this lesson when I tried to go into a butterfly and my knees were directly on the ice. not to mention that the straps from the leg pads were being dragged along the ice and would occasionally go under my skate, tripping me.

warmups were so absolutely terrible. I had no sense of positioning and couldn't save anything glove side. not to mention that I couldn't go down in my stance at all because I'd wreck my knees. but I didn't want to hold everyone up by changing my pads so I said whatever and we started the game

I wasn't terrible but I wasn't good either. the fact that I had to play like a 1960s standup goalie didn't help. my brothers scored on me in back to back possessions (including my brother who hasn't played in a long time). my leg pads would occasionally sneak to the side of my legs and as their team had possession of the puck I had to constantly fix the orientation of the pad

about 45 minutes in and I decide to stop playing with my knees' lives and change which leg the pads were on. Afterward I was a bit more spry and could do a little from the butterfly but still not too much because ultimately the pads were too big for my short ass. my blocker side aint half bad and I made an alarming amount of saves with the knob of my stick. I don't think I made one glove save all night (or, at least I didn't catch anything with my glove, I may have just deflected them). also playing a skater for a while I at least had a useful poke check

I learned my lesson to **** try this **** on before going on the ice at least

Ya boy finally got the monkey off his back tonight. 5 months back playing + COVID + another 3 months or so of taking a break from ice due to work/not wanting to play at 11:30. Feels good to score again.

I've seen an ECHL goalie (not Meow, I don't think) score a goal.
none of my beer league goalies could even come close. well, at least not into the goal that's 200ft away.

Eh, just grab a quick cat nap at some point...

11:30 was a fairly regular time slot for me when I played in North Jersey...one time I had a playoff game scheduled at like 1:10 AM or something like that...

the latest my league plays is 10:50 and unfortunately for me, those games are at a rink 45 minutes from my house. on average though, most players in our league (60+ teams, 1200 players) will only have that slot once every 3 or 4 seasons.

@meow how’s the amateur hockey scene in Charlotte? I’m planning on moving to CLT in September

I’m gonna miss the rink in Wilmington. Not because it’s great or anything but because pickup hockey here always had a good amount of numbers (not too few but not too many either) and there’s a good balance of competition

I used to play tournaments in Charlotte pretty regularly. for years they were held at this rink that was at the bottom level of this pretty sketchy mall. games early in the morning would include the smell of the Cinnabon right above us wafting down and making me nauseous. if that wasn't bad enough, people would toss pennies down at us during play. :scared:

You have two choices - Pineville or Indian Trail. I think Pineville has better time slots for games. Overall, I think the depth of skill is actually pretty wide. The A league is filled with ex-pros and junior players and NCAA players. The lower level leagues are guys that started playing when they were 40
