I'm assuming that no other team made an offer.

Both Sam Bennett and Andreas Athanasiou are considering going to Europe to play if they don't get deals done. Bennett and Calgary are really far off, Detroit can only offer 1.5 mil because they have 0 cap space.

Calgary had this happen with Mark Giordano, worked out fine...that said, I'd like to acquire Bennett...

If Bennett and Calgary are "really far off" then I do not want the Pens to look into trading for him. He has not done anything to deserve a payday YET.

The kid scored 26 points last year...and is in a contract dispute of some regard perhaps...maybe he just doesn't want to play for Calgary anymore...but I have no idea what he could be asking for that is so unreasonable...

Tanner Glass has been invited to Calgary training camp, so they're all good.

i understand the need to fill your roster with good players, but...

A) nobody except for weirdo russians are actually going to europe. enough with this brand of posturing already
B) call the bluff. i don't think winning teams are built off the backs of guys willing to go play minor league hockey because of a financial dispute

What kind of future retread haggles over a 2nd contract?

Then again, I've hated Lindros since before that draft (and forcing the trade).

Yeah, it's a bargaining chip...guys go and come back sometimes...again, this happened to the Flames with Mark Giordano...a nobody defenseman, who left for Russia, and now has been on the Norris radar for the last few seasons...Radulov, Jagr, etc. have come back and been impact players upon their respective returns...Gio and Radu are products of the Canadian junior system at the end of their amateur status, Jagr is a Czech of course...

But yeah, it's a bargaining chip...they're wise to try to use it...at the end of the day, the Flames own his rights, the Wings own AA's rights...I don't believe either of them can solicit an offer sheet at this point...so it is what it is...
