Here's what will happen. If Weber gets too old to be good he'll mysteriously have an injury that puts him on long term IR like Savard, Pronger, and Rathje before him. Cap problem solved.

Is it a conspiracy or did those guys actually have their careers ended prematurely?

Additionally, players aren't eligible for IR in the offseason. So the problem isn't "solved" per se...mitigated somewhat sure, but not solved...

All three of them were 100% legit career-ending injuries. That said, I think it's BS that teams can trade their contracts to maneuver around the cap, but that's a different thread.
