That's a pretty good deal. He's turned into a terrific player...

Apparently, the Leafs (who every player imaginable always wants to play for), Lightning, and Bruins are rumored to be the top 3 contenders for Stamkos. I personally think he'll wind up staying in Tampa somehow.

He better take a hometown discount to stay in Tampa...they went on back to back runs deep into the playoffs without him...once due to injury, once due to ineffectiveness...

I'd expect New York and Detroit to be in on this too...

Which NY team? I assume the Rangers.

I wouldn't put it past both of them actually...but more so the Rangers, sans Stepan...or Staal/Girardi...

Stamkos and Tavares could be one hell of a one-two punch.

Obligatory reminder that WAS traded him for Erat. L-o-freaking-l.
Yeah but we drafted over him while we were in need of forward prospects.

Which reminds me: Last year in the draft the Devils went LW, G, RW, D, LW. This year they went C, RW, RW, C, LW, G, D, LW, D. It's like Shero can only be set to one extreme or the other.

Chris Johnston ‏@reporterchris 16h16 hours ago

Adam Clendening and Luke Gazdic among the #oilers not issued a qualifying offer. They both become UFA's.
Craig Morgan ‏@craigsmorgan 15h15 hours ago

The rest of Coyotes RFAs are free to test market: Philip Samuelsson, Niklas Treutle, Brendan Shinnimin, Christian Thomas, Sergei Plotnikov.
As a result, Arizona gets their 7th rounder back for Plotnikov.

In what world is Shaw worth almost $4 million? That's going to drive up the Bonino price in a year.

Poor Plots. Thrown on the trash heap by the leagues shittiest organization. Hopefully they at least gave him a ticket back to Russia.

The Flames didn't extend a qualifying offer to former Penguin Ben Hanowski. He was traded to Calgary as part of the Jarome Iginla trade.

John Shannon

Eric Staal has had interest from 3 or 4 teams. Still hoping to play Top 6 minutes at Centre. Doesn't expect a long term deal.
I'm genuinely surprised that even 3 teams have shown interest in signing him.

The league never learns. They hand out contracts and make trades based on what guys did 10 years ago. He'll be overpaid somewhere.

This makes me laugh:
James Mirtle

Blue Jackets have told teams they're willing to retain salary in order to dump guys. Desperate to shed money. Hartnell, Tyutin, Boll etc.
