We traded a 5th rounder for Hornqvist and a portion of Kessel.

He signs for 5 years, $5.475M per...all told, that's a pretty good snag by the Yotes who needed another d-man badly...

I'm surprised he signed with them, to be honest. I'm sure there were plenty of other teams who would have courted him.

Not really. His advanced stats are fairly close to those of Kris Letang in terms of production per 60 minutes and shot generation/suppression. Obviously, Letang is a little better in the shots generated and Corsi differential, but Goligoski isn't that far behind him.

Obviously, not saying Goligoski = Kris Letang, but he's played a pretty solid OFD game for Dallas, and the stats back that up. He's a good pickup for Arizona, who definitely need someone else to move the puck whose name isn't Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

So...Kris Letang is an elite d-man in this league, at least a #1 at worst...am I to believe that Goose is too...?

Don't know how that couldn't be more clear.

I'm not saying he's elite, but it appears he's underrated by some.

My question was not in relation to Letang. Letang is X. I know this. Let's pretend I don't know who Goligoski is. What is Goligoski? What am I to believe? Because they look pretty damn similar on that pamphlet...so you were clear, I asked a clarifying question that I believe to be clear as well.

Again, Kris Letang is an elite defenseman in the league. At worst he is a #1. What is Alex Goligoski?

Hes a top pairing guy and a pp qb on many teams. Hes at worst a 3.

Hes no letang, but he will be filling the same role in az that letang would if he went there.

Without anything but the above chart, a player that is likely the 2nd or 3rd best defensemen on most teams. Which does not strike me as particularly controversial.

The next step would be to use even more data and information to learn about how he was deployed, who his most common pairing was, etc. to get an even fuller picture of how to evaluate the player without the benefit of watching him play.

Dick Tarnstrom and Ric Jackman filled Letang's role here at one point too...they were 6/7 guys. The assigning of the number, as it were, comes from proper talent evaluation. I'm sure Tarnstrom and Jackman got off a lot of shots too...

Well if that was a response to me, im saying that either letang or gogo would be a 3 or an out of place 2 in az. Id certainly rather have letang than gogo, but its not as if either of them are as good as oel...in any way really.

This is a good example of really poor analysis. :pop:

Not really.
I expect that if he thought that there was a chance of getting more he would have gone to 7/1.
