Caps fans think Todd Reirden is going to get promoted to HC. Okay then.
That's been the plan for months...so I'd expect that to happen...

Trotz is a free agent, his contract is up...I'd expect the Isles to make a big play for him...

Trotz wants a 5x5 deal which I think is reasonable for him. Definitely better than a 1.8x2 deal.

Trotz got badmouthed by fans all season, and got no support from "ownership", and potentially got bad mouthed by "ownership". Trotz knew that that place was a mess and he saw an out so he moved with it.

It is odd that there are reports that the Caps are quite upset that Trotz is "breaking" the contract... yet they are allowing him to not only leave but to also look for work elsewhere.

Caps - "You are under contract for 2 more years."
Trotz - "I don't want to work here anymore and i am not going to work here any more."
Caps - "Fine, but you are not going to work anywhere until those 2 years are up."
Trotz - "Really? Well... Then I guess that I will just tell the press about X and then about Y..."
Caps - "Good luck in your job hunt and all of your future endeavors!"
Trotz - "Yep."

Hoffman + spare parts to the Sharks for Boedker + spare parts.

I get that he comes with baggage because his gf is a psycho...but that's a very bad return. Boedker is a good third liner with a very bleh contract...Hoffman is a top-line goal scorer...I even see a path for Bergman into the NHL, but he's still only a B-/C+ prospect at best...I know there's an asterisk to this, but did Pierre Dorion really call everyone before pulling the trigger on this...? No one could beat the offer of Boedker...?

Definitely a poor return for Hoffman, but if it keeps Karlsson in Ottawa it is worth it.

Seems very unlikely that it will do that...

#Sens save $1,187,500 per season in cap space.
#Sens save $5,300,000 in total salary paid.
There is the answer to the trade.

Sens ownership isn't going to pay EK what he wants and at this point he probably wants a greener pasture anyways. Evander Kane plus Mike Hoffman's girlfriend. I'm looking forward to the locker room and personal life disaster that the Sharks turn into.

Knowing the news now, I doubt the Sens would have ever won a trade with Hoffman. They just needed to dump the guy.

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Panthers have acquired forward Mike Hoffman and a 2018 seventh round pick from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Florida's 2019 second round pick, 2018 fourth round pick and 2018 5th round pick.

The future Mrs. Hoffman will fit in nicely with the local crazies in South Florida.

Apparently Dorion doesn't listen to any offers within the division.

Oh really? Who says that? Not that I don't believe it, but that's the sign of a very insecure GM...

Ottawa has really plummeted down the mountain in terms of professionally run sports franchises...

Pierre Dorion is a big believer in not trading players within his own division. Often says he rarely talks shop with other GMs in the division. Interesting play by #sjsharks.

Thanks LBL...

That's a quarter of the league, if I trust my ability, I'm cool with trading in the division...I want to trade my lemons for mangoes where it benefits me most...

That said, Pierre is probably one of the many GMs around the league that isn't trying to skin a guy because that creates a bad relationship...Pierre, actually, pretty clearly not one of those guys because he gets fisted in most trades it seems like...but still, that's a quarter of the league you can't do business with and won't even engage with...that's not a free market, that's for true...

I'd say the Sharks are the winners here...moved some salary and scooped up some picks, and didn't give too much away.

Cap space, SJS opened up something like $4+mm today on top of like 7MM free already. Looks like they're gonna run at Tavares.

San Jose did want Boedker out, yes. After giving Kane all their cash, they needed to free up some space...for the easy comparison, Troy, Boedker is their Hagelin. Decent player and all, but at four bills, he's a luxury item...

SJ has been prepared to take a run at Tavares, in the same way that they took a run at Stamkos...they made an impression with him, but ultimately, he didn't leave Tampa...

Tavares to SJS would make me very sad.
