What kind of details are you looking for...?

Obviously everything is up in the air and virtually everything is on the table because the offseason just started...but the target date is to start Jan. 1, I think they want to hit 70 games if they can, but there's a very strong undercurrent of folks who doubt that's possible. There are some local TV contracts that require some minimum games to play out in order to be fulfilled I believe, so that's something you really have to be careful because you're not gonna have a lot of fans...

Clubs have been working on how to make it safe for small crowds...Ottawa thinks they can do 6,000 safely (which is their normal attendance anyhow), Vegas says they need to get 40% to make it worthwhile...some arenas really probably can't do much about that though...but maybe we'll have a clearer picture (slightly) by December about that...

There's a thought that there'd be an All-Canadian division to minimize border travel, and also that some of the Canadian teams would relocate their AHL affiliates to Canada so that they have the ability to call players up "freely"...

Back to the games and timing thing, you have to real careful about your clock...July 22nd or 23rd is when the Summer Olympics start...NBC in the States, CBC and Sportsnet in Canada house Olympic coverage...you'd think you can't have hockey coverage spill over into that zone, right?

In 2013, we had a mid-January start and a late June Cup with 48 games in there...I can't imagine you can do too much better than that and not run into the Olympics as a stopper...

But there is exactly zero things that are even close to be setting in stone...including having a season at all...

Thank you for your service mikey. Olympics in July is one thing I haven't considered. I did hear most of those rumors - I guess I was just wondering when we might actually hear of something being set in stone. You'd think if a 1/1 target date happens, training camps would be starting in what, 6 weeks?

Around 12/15 probably...

Atlanta and Norfolk, both of the ECHL, are both suspending ops for the 2020-21 season.

Atlanta is Boston's ECHL affiliate, but I believe Norfolk is the only ECHL team running as an independent.

No surprise. 99.99999999999% of the Coast’s revenue is through ticket sales. Margins are already so thin, any reduction in attendance would cause teams to run into the red in a serious way

I'm actually surprised there aren't more teams on the list. Norfolk doesn't surprise me because of their independent status, but I think they might be one of the states that has really locked down the attendance on events. Looking at this FAQ from VA, it looks like the max attendance is 50% but it also caps out at 1000 (insert joke about the Ads' attendance not being much more than that anyways)
https://www.virginia.gov/coronavirus/fo ... ginia/faq/

At the moment, there are 13 who committed to the 20-21 season, 11 who "plan to return", and the previously mentioned two teams who said they'll be back for 2021-22. For those interested, Wheeling is one of the teams that have committed.

If they don’t give the Blues that jersey that Mike Keenan banned then what’s the point of any of this?

It was part of the first 3rd jersey program back in 95-96. It only lasted one season, though, for obvious reasons. In recent years, public opinion has swayed back in its favor mostly because of throwback/nostalgia culture.
