viewtopic.php?p=704723#p704723I'm disappointed with his progression so far...he's got some wheels and a shot, but he hasn't figured much else out so far...he's as good as he was at 19 right now...but since we have the defense whisperers here, the talent base is ripe for the picking...I thought more highly of Justin Schultz in the AHL than Honka at the AHL, but I think Honka is more talented than Niskanen at the same age...
Decent chance he ends up on waivers...maybe someone throws a late pick or project player at them instead...

If there's room...but I don't think there's room without a body going out...
You have 8 NHL players on defense right now, all require waivers. I just don't see how it's going to work. Let's say you even waive Ruhwedel to put Honka in that 4th RD spot or whatever it is...that's Czuczman, Trotman, Ruhwedel, Warsofsky all as AHL vets, so that's 4 of the 5 spots. I have to assume that at least 2 or 3 forwards are AHL vets too...Crammer, Haggerty, Agozzino, Blandisi, just at a glance are probably vets...
Now, sure, if it doesn't work out you just waive Honka, you probably just terminate the contract and let him go to the KHL...but my point is, it's a lot of shuffling if you're not really confident, ya know? Now, of course, if you think this is a player - then yes, by all means...who cares about any players I've named in this post? No one should. But that's part of the thing about waivers and all this noise at this point in the season is that you're going to go through all these camps and preseason games and all this and after that's all over, you're gonna add a guy on October 2nd that you feel is better than all of your own guys...just make sure you know what you're doing there, is all I'm saying.

Ex-Pen Chris Wideman played for 5 teams last year, 3 NHL and 2 AHL.
He started in Ottawa (NHL)
On 11/22 he was traded to Edmonton (NHL) for a conditional 5th/6th that ended up being a 6th.
On 12/30 he was traded with a 3rd to Florida (NHL) for Petrovic (who is now in Boston on a PTO), also appearing for Springfield (AHL)
On 2/25 he was traded to Pittsburgh (NHL) for Dea (who is now in Buffalo), also appearing for WBS (AHL)
That's a lot of hotels. He is now with Anaheim btw...
Good on Florida for getting a 3rd for Petrovic.

I thought that teams could only go 10% over the cap in the summer. Leafs are 16.4% over.

That’s a hell of a lot of money tied up in three players.

So what exactly took them so long? It's pretty much the contract the whole world expected him to get.

Wouldn't have a sketchy d if they didn't trade their peeps away...

That’s amazing. So many great retro jerseys in the league now. Only a matter of time before the pigeon makes an appearance.

Aren’t we getting a new third jersey this year, since we didn’t reveal one last year? I swear I thought that was the case.
