Yeah, I didn't think so.
An SB Nation min-doc on Neely/Ulf called Neely a 'generational talent' in the title of the video. I watched the whole video and the only generational talents in there were Mario and Jagr.

Saw the same video. Laughed at the idea of Neely being a generational talent.Yeah, I didn't think so.

By my definition, only Mario was generational really...then again, I think there were only four all-time...99, 4, Mr. Hockey, 66...everyone else is a step below...
For almost no additional context, working on a historical project I put together a rough draft of the top 120 players of all time...not only did Neely not make my list, he wasn't considered...
So when I'm in this territory, I try to set mile markers, so to speak, to see where a player might fall...so, I guess I'd ask, what does Neely have on Eric Lindros (my #101)...? And my answer is "not much, if anything..."
Then I guess I'd go down from there to Brendan Shanahan...I think that's a more interesting comparable...
Clearly, we're a long way from "generational" even by loose standards...

It was a dumb video; but we could extend the benefit of the doubt to them by saying that Neely never made his potential because of the knee injury, despite the fact he played for six more years, if we wanted to. One of those years he scored 50 in 49 and won the Hart, which to me is evidence the injury wasn't the cause of his retirement. Even the doctors said it was a degenerative condition and not due to a single event.
Or we could acknowledge it as just another stupid Boston v. the world video and Neely/Bourque were the Bruins in the 90s, and that's what they meant.

It sounds dumb, yes.
Just a few clarifying points for our listeners...Neely never ever got close to a Hart...he received three token votes for his 50 in 49 in 1994. He did win the Masterton that season...
It's tough, I mean, Neely does score 70 goals (!) in his next 71 games after that injury...but it's spread over three seasons...it's even 74 in 75 games by throwing in a playoff series...it's crazy.
He does put in a full season (of the half season) in the odd 1995 season...where he mostly just a power play bomb at age 29...he played another half season at the age of 30 and then he's done...
Rather than generational, I'd say that we got ours when Rich Pilon helped to cream Kevin Stevens' corn...two potentially great teams succumb to the same fate right around the same time, except we got our two Cups and Boston didn't...ignoring the fact that those Penguins teams of the early 90's were must better than Boston from a depth perspective...

Yeah, you're right. I looked at Hockey Reference to be precise on the 50 in 49 stat and saw 'Hart' under awards but failed to note it actually said 'Hart-9' meaning 9th place in voting. He came in right behind Adam Graves, Neely wasn't even the highest Bruin vote getter. Thanks for catching that, it seemed way off to me but I was scanning it real quick and tossed it in to try and give SB Nation some kind of benefit of the doubt.

Tom Wilson’s suspension reduced to 14 games by arbitrator. No time machine to play, but does get salary back

Was the arbitrator Todd Bertuzzi...?

Shyam Das. Same guy who reduced Austin Watson's domestic violence suspension and Ryan Braun's roid suspension for the MLB in 2012.
The MLB fired him after that. He seems kind of like a dolt.

So he got off for good behavior? He did enough charity work or something. Can’t wait til he does it again. Maybe they will finally kick him out.

Let's see if he's still around to play the Pens on December 19.

if I was a player that Wilson injured between now and when his suspension would've been up I'd sue that guy for every penny he has.

The seller did not come forward (yet). It is definitely not Petr Svoboda (donated his medal to http://www.nadacejakubavoracka.cz/en/ ). The media speculates that this person may be the most likely seller:

The videos that get put out in the summer of guys training don’t typically move my needle (giggity), but one of Marner was released this summer. Holy shnikes. The way he can skate. The way his hips move. Bananaland. Kane is all shoulders and shimmy shakes. Marner unhinges his hips like Wile E Coyote
