What a joke. Boucher is a very good coach...
In 2019? I’m not so sure
This is a good teacher, a good tactician, he's a fiery competitor and he's very capable of getting a lot out of a little...could you make the claim that he wouldn't be a good fit for a powerhouse team with a bunch of vets...like Pittsburgh? Yeah, I'd buy that...but for a young team, that needs structure, I think he's as good of a fit as you're going to find...

I'll assume Troy Mann takes over in Ottawa this summer...been a hot name for the last couple years...

Can the Pens get'em?

;)

Would he have to work in WBS first?

Why? What did Boucher do wrong? Probably questioned ownership...Dorion just said they weren't gonna do anything with coaching...

What a joke. Boucher is a very good coach...
What a dumpster fire. Agreed.

Guy Boucher fired as head coach of the Senators. Marc Crawford takes over for now.
TIL Marc Crawford is back from Zurich and apparently has been since 2016.

You need to draft a generational talent to get back on track. Boucher is not a path to the bottom.

Ooh, Scuderi...$29,575,000 in career earnings...8 goals...about $3.7 mil per goal...
I was trying to find somebody who had a high salary with a lot of game played, but once you start venturing past 16 career goals and a higher salary for a longer period of time, you don't have many candidates. I'm thinking it might be Scuds, who is clocking in at .01 goals per game.

I'd have to dig up contracts on some of these, but a few more worth mentioning

Luke Richardson: .02 gpg (35 G in 1417 GP. Total salary: 23.862m)
Josh Gorges: .02 gpg (17 G in 783 GP, Total salary: $29.695m)
Niklas Hjalmarsson: .03 gpg (24 G in 736 GP. Total salary: $36.5m with a 2 year/$10m extension kicking in until 2020-21)
Nick Schultz: .03 gpg (30 G in 1069 GP, Total salary: 30.5m)
Ken Daneyko: .03 gpg (36 G in 1283 GP. Total salary: 14.851m from 1989-2002, missing 1981-89)
Hal Gill: .03 gpg (36 G in 1108 GP. Total salary: $21.625m.)

Search string was anybody who played more than 700 games but had less than 60 goals.

I thought it would be the other way around. A guy like Michel Brière that came in with a bunch of talent and then met tragedy early. He won't work because huge signing bonuses and fat contracts weren't a thing in 1971.

To go along with the Boucher news:

Frank Seravalli
@frank_seravalli
Pierre Dorion said he met with #Sens players this morning. "I told them that our play recently wasn't acceptable." He said he told them: "No more excuses." 😳

This is a way for a GM to signal he's not throwing away the season, the day he decides to throw away the season by firing his coach.

NHL doesn't like tanking. Ottawa is tanking.

Tanking for what? They don't have a first round pick.

This is the GM pointing fingers. “See what you jerks did. You got your coach fired cause you play like a bunch of lolligaggers”

Never mind the fact that this roster would be a middle of the pack AHL team

There was a photo floating around that had the 2016-17 Senators team photo with the current team’s jersey photoshopped for each player. It was an absolute mess and quite sad/hilarious

Nah, the formula you need is low career goals pretty game * salary. Scuds' impressively low gpg makes him tough to beat. What works against him is his relatively low games played. 800 games or whatever it is isn't necessarily that low but it pales when compared to a number of players going 1200+

Hjarlmarsson has the GP, the low number of total goals, and the higher peak of total salary. He may not be number one right now, but he might make a run for the highest $ per goal years from now.

Are goaltenders allowed to have any aids attached to their skates? I remember ads in hockey magazines when I was a kid that advertised blades that you could attach to the inside edge of the toe. They helped with push-offs. Are these allowed at any level currently?

I believe so. Although “legal” maybe not be the right term. They were never written into a rule book as being allowed. Once they became a known commodity, they were outlawed.

For those of you that don’t know what we are taking about, they made these small add on blades that goalies could put on their skates. Basically where your big toe is. It let you get a blade on the ice to move around without having to get your main blade on the ice, so you could keep your butterfly tighter to the ice while still have some blade to grab and slide
