Then they shouldnt have thrown those players into the fire. The injustice is rewarding a team that cant develop players with repeated opportunities to try to develop elite talent. They dont deserve this kid that is potentially good enough to skip the early portions of the nhl development curve.

Edmonton has gotten number one picks in years where they haven't been elite players and wouldn't be on even a real NHL team. I don't see any injustice with them finally getting someone like McDavid.
This opinion surprises zero people. It'll be fun when they also have the number one in 2016.

Bleh. Screw Edmonton. Good for their fans and all that, but that management doesn't deserve this with the clown show they've been running the past few years. I hope they can surround him with the right players soon so the early part of his career isn't wasted.

Most of my anger stems from a personal standpoint. I was hoping he'd end up somewhere in the East so I could watch him often and have the chance to catch him in person more than once a year. Eichel is a hell of a consolation prize but I'm sure Buffalo has a bitter taste in their mouth.

So they can completely manage that player's development as well. Edmonton should be relegated to the American until they prove they are capable and willing to operate at the highest level.

If the mid-Ought Pens is what you'd like to use as an example in this case, please do go on.

It was mutual... ...the old it's not you, it's me routine...

Would be a good fit in Philadelphia...(who I hope just re-hires Berube for the lolz...or Tim Tebow...)

In hockey when playing on a Penalty Kill, you get a +1 for scoring shorthanded whether it is a 4-5 or 3-5? Shouldn't an extra +1 be added to each of the 3 players on the ice if they scored shorthanded down by 2 players?!?

Equally, a -1 for each player on the ice that had a shorty scored against, and an additional -1 if a shorty is scored against on a 5-3.

Is Bettman up to some shenanigans or what???

That was a pretty ballsy play by Ellis for NSH. I might be stupid, but I don't remember seeing a player standing in front of his net when a goalie was pulled, down 4-2 with about 1:30 or so left, and taking a hard snapper/slapper without flinching.

I really does think this shows that on a competitive level, I think hockey players are the toughest of all sports (Maybe boxing has an upper). This is why I love the game

Random question for mikey & others - Is Shea Theodore a legit prospect? As in, can he come up next year (or the year after) for the Ducks & replace Stoner or another d-man?

Seems like they have a lot of good & young defensive talent now... but few defensive defenders (I guess Despres & Stoner fit that, but it's not like McDonagh or Jones or someone).

I love Shea Theodore. Next year? On a team with Fowler and Vatanen...? I don't know the need to rush that, but man does he have upside...

Just briefly, I said this about him June 2013, a couple weeks before the draft:
He's a first round package in my opinion. That's a good deal of skill and skating. He has a lot of confidence with the puck. I only have limited viewings of him, but his puck skills and poise were impressive, his defense - of course - was not...because if it was, we'd actually be talking about a top 10, 15 pick here.

I'll say the same thing I say about Nic Petan...it's an awful lot of skill to continue to pass up. Teams with a second first rounder probably won't hesitate to swing for the fences with Theodore late in the first round I believe...

Their defense is going to be an incredibly offensively-oriented group, then, won't they? Fowler, Vatanen, Lindholm, Theodore...

Or do you see them trading one for needs elsewhere? Ritchie will probably be another top 6 winger, but they could use another to complement the Getzlaf/Perry & Kesler/Silfverberg duos.

Yeah, you have to assume it's Theodore once he establishes himself as an NHL ready player...but they don't have to rush if they don't need to.

It's still early for him there. Probably still playing with some adrenaline.

Given his time here, he'll come back down to earth eventually.
