4 Chicago fans were thrown out of the arena after chanting “basketball” at Smith-Pelly. The **** is wrong with people? Gif at the link below.

I didn't know that "basketball" was...that sort of thing.
huh.

Apparently he dealt with the same sort of taunts before in his career as well with fans telling him he should "stick to basketball."

Jagr update (for my post from Saturday):

Jagr - at least based on his team's info - did NOT suffer a concussion. He "only" choked on his tongue, had a cut above his upper lip (1 stitch) and suffered an "overall shock" (whatever that's supposed to mean). The team calls it "not a serious injury" even after Jagr was thoroughly checked in a hospital.

In is not sure, though, whether Jagr will play on Wednesday

Technically, he cannot afford missing any game if he wants to log 15 games be eligible to play in the promotion/relegation tournament to the Czech Extraleague. In reality, he probably can miss 1-2 games, because the "15 games" are based on 7 games remaining in the regular season + rather unrealistic assumption (Jagr's team is not that great) that Kladno will win BOTH play-off series 4:0. Of course, every play-off loss "buys" Jagr one game he can miss...

Even after today's league review, the hit on Jagr was deemed completely legal, and the attacking player will not face any further consequences (he was not penalized during the game, either).

Here is the youtube video of the hit (around 0:20 mark):

And one longer video showing the hit and the aftermath. DEFINITELY a concussion, IMO:

Excuse my ignorance, but is the league he’s playing in a “legit” league? What would be the North American equivalent (if there is one)?

This was how I felt a few years ago...I doubt much has changed...

1. NHL
2. KHL
3. SEL
4. AHL
5. SM-Liiga A
6. NLA
7-8. DEL/Czech Extraliga
9-11. Slovak league/Allsvenskan/EBEL

He plays in the second-tier Czech League...that's gotta be coming up in the next group...

Probably coming up soon-ish too...there's a lot that's gonna fall in that next group...but the further down you get, the less I've seen them...I've probably watched less than 10 VHL games in my life (that's Russia-2)...it's like bad roller hockey, it's just 1v4 rushes and whatever happens happens...they have stick skills but, it's such bad hockey, it's difficult to say where something like that belongs...

Mestis/Czech2/ECHL...they gotta be up next...Mestis probably should be in the head of that group, if not already up on that board actually...

I’d most certainly rather watch the CHL over the ECHL.

I’d probably rather watch a Kazakh vodka league game than college hockey.

Czech Extraleague had one finalist of the Champions League last year and two semifinalists this year. Just saying... :)

Does Jared Coreau have any potential at being an NHL starter? Wonder what the Wings will do in goal long term.

The top of the WSM League are "traditional" Czech ex-Extraleague teams (Carlsbad, Budweiss, Kladno, Slavia Prague) that all won Extraleague championships in the past and developed a lot of NHL players, but recently lost their major sponsors, which made them not competitive in the Extraleague. However, I think that this year at least one of those 4 teams will earn a promotion, because the two Extraleague teams headed to promotion/relegation tournament (Litvinov - coached by Jiri Slegr - and Jihlava) are rather dismal and rather poor in terms of finance lately.

Kladno - regardless whether Jagr plays or not - is the underdog among the top 4 teams because, frankly, they were good in the communist past solely because they had a rich sponsor - Poldi Steel Corp. That company has been long bankrupt now, and Kladno is now simply a town that's not very rich, it's too close to rich Prague, and the team does not have a particularly supportive fan base.

The bottom of WSM League are either farm/junior teams of the Extraleague teams or teams of players clearly not good enough to play in the top league. Because of that, the matches between top 4-5 teams and bottom 4-5 teams are frequently quite loopsided.

I never thought so, no...

I am wondering what the Wings will do to get rid of that Mobro 4000 influenced roster they have in general...

Mrazek: 26 year old RFA 50% retained for...
2018 4th* - Becomes 3rd if Mrazek wins five playoff games, 2nd if reach the Conf Final and Mrazek wins six playoff games
2019 3rd* - If Flyers resign Mrazek

So the deal is for either just a 4th, or up to a 2nd and a 3rd.

Definitely. I try to go to at least 1 game a season. Don't know if I'm going to get the chance this season.
