It's going to really irritate me when he makes the HOF for being pretty good for a really long time.

If Marleau started his career in 1980, I reckon his case changes. He’d then be a guy who would have accumulated a ton of points in the “Goalies lol” era, which would create some complicated comparisons to guys who started 5-10 years later and retire at the same time.

Inducting the all-time games played leader is not going to challenge the institution's integrity.

Andreychuk...won the battle of attrition and accumulated lots of numbers over 20 years. Never cracked 100 points but is in the HHOF. I dunno...Marleau’s the same for me. Unremarkable (but above average) guy with no iconic style who went to work every day.

I watched hockey in the 90’s. Andreychuk was never scary. Neither was Marleau.

Flower passed Belfour last week to get to 4th on the all time wins list at 485. Next is Luongo at 489.

When the hell did Luongo get that many wins?

Andreychuk is legitimately one of the worst players in the HOF. The hockey history community loathes that induction. And yes, Marleau is Gartner (slightly) lite...so we saw that case already play out. I also don't care for Gartner being the HOF, despite the gaudy goal total...

Re: integrity. I'm a small room guy. The word "fame" carries a lot of weight for me. It should be for the best players of all time. I say this at my job a lot...time is ubiquitous, everyone accrues time at the same rate, time isn't special. Production is special. Marleau wasn't very productive. Top 10 in goals twice, not top 10 in points zero times.

If I had started working at my company at 18 and worked there for 30 years just, ya know, generally doing my job...occasionally missing important deadlines, but generally competent and unambitious...am I really better than real me that has been there for almost 8 and has revolutionized so much of what we do...? The answer is obviously not. I'm a HOFer as far as my company is concerned. The nurse's assistant who has been there for 25 years is not.

Now, you clearly don't care whether the HOF is "right" or "just" or "accurate" and I think that's very fair...but you asked who cared, and the answer is me and I'm not suggesting it's a worthwhile or even rational concern...

He played the majority of his (long) career in an era with overtime and no ties. He'd probably have roughly 40-50 less wins had he played prior to the shootout. Which is still top 10. But it ain't #3, behind Roy and Brodeur either...

Fleury isn’t as slam dunk to the Hall as some think. I’m historically not a big Fleury fan. He’s firmer in the “he’s fine” category for me. That said, he walks in IMO. Three Cups and a metric buttload of wins. What else is there for a goalie?

Whether it should or not his spot near the top of the all time NHL Great Dudes list doesn’t hurt. Swap his stats out for Tom Barrasso being the guy behind them and I’m not so sure.

That said 3 more 22 win seasons and he passes Roy for 2nd. Heady stuff. (

Being considered a top 5 goalie for any noteworthy stretch a time...he may make it because he's a nice guy...but not on merit...

From me...? Haha. Nothing to push back on. You nailed exactly why (more or less) he shouldn't be in the Hall...PP player, no real interesting peak, no real impact on the game, not even near the best at his weak position, and his checking ability drastically cost him offense to a degree that suggests he couldn't have produced and played defense even if he wanted to in his prime...dud (in this arena).

A Vezina? Being a top 3 goalie in any season of his career?

A vezina would help I guess, but Bobrovsky and Tim Thomas each have two and they are both not good soooooo.

What does top 3 mean?
