I wonder how dire this is with Edmonton. As far as just not being a viable city for a pro sports team. In 10 years when they officially are through blowing McDavid’s career…what then?

I really wish they didn’t blow that lead against the ducks in ‘17. Sports are better when the best players also win. He’s primed to be the best player ever in any sport who never got to do squat on a big stage.

I think you're leaning into this undesirable city thing too hard. Winnipeg is good, you telling me guys love to go out in Winnipeg? The NFLs best team of the past few years is in Kansas City. A mecca for young dudes that grew up in urban areas

David Krejci has apparently a contract clause allowing him to return to Boston:

or much better translation from DEEPL.com:
Krejci's end in the NHL is not final. Will he return from Olomouc to Boston?
August 9, 2021 15:43

Maybe David Krejci didn't say goodbye to his NHL career completely, but just said see you next time. The hockey forward, who is moving back home with much fanfare to play for Olomouc, may return to Boston. The Bruins could use his services in the playoffs.

He will play for Olomouc in the regular season, that's for sure. And if the Haná club advances to the playoffs or, on the other hand, struggles in the playoffs, Krejci won't be going anywhere.

But what if the club has nothing left to lose? Either it will not make the playoffs, it will gain the certainty of salvation in the highest Czech competition, or in the worst case it will be assured of relegation?

That's when the call from Boston could come: 'David, we need you for the playoffs. Do you want to come?"

"David got an offer from the Bruins that he could come back anytime if he wanted to. It's not like one or the other in Boston slammed the door. It's an open and mutual thing," Krejci's father, Zdenek, explained to iDNES.cz.

"He said goodbye to the club in the best possible way. And we as agents wanted him to have the opportunity to come back, that's why he has the clause in his contract. However, David is ready to play the whole season in Olomouc," adds Krejci's agent František Tausch from the GMG agency.
Throw the skates in the bin! Dad Krejci on his son's return.

"Yes, a return to the NHL is not on the agenda, let's treat it as an academic debate," adds Krejci Sr.

However, the theoretical debate may soon turn into a very real one.

Not for nothing is Krejci nicknamed "Play off Krech" in the NHL. The Czech center has always performed at his best in the playoffs. In 2011, he was a huge part of the Stanley Cup win, with 23 points in 25 games, he also won the playoff scoring.

In 2013 he was even better, with 26 points in 22 games he literally dragged the Bruins, only there was no second Cup.

He had another Finals disappointment alongside David Pastrnak two years ago, but whatever the team's result, the certainty remained that Krejci was someone the booth could rely on.

Bruins management knows it, too. "We're wondering if David Krejci could come back at some point. We're leaving it open, we'll see. Anyway, it will depend a lot on his decision. We're not putting a timetable on it, but rather trying to expand the roster with other free agents," general manager Don Sweeney said last week.

One date, after all, must be kept in mind. In order for free agents to be eligible for the NHL playoffs, they must sign with the club by the transfer deadline, which is usually in late February, and Olomouc's regular season doesn't end until March 8.

Krejci's option of moving overseas will most likely be narrowed down to a situation where Olomouc knows before the end of the regular season that it will finish 13th - thus avoiding the playoffs, where 12 teams advance, and the barrier for the 14th club, or possibly gaining the certainty of finishing in last place.

Until then, Krejci can be enjoyed by Czech fans, especially those in Olomouc.

"I thought to myself that it's not even possible that a player like that would come to Olomouc. I think about it every night and I still wonder if it's a dream come true. It can kick us to great performances. He is one of my role models," says Olomouc forward Jan Knotek.

Krejci signed a one-year contract with Olomouc, but according to the player's agent, he did not discuss his future and Tausch did not rule out any of the options: continuing in Olomouc, at another club abroad or ending his career.

But now Krejci's poignant words from the beginning of August apply: 'I want to play in front of my parents, brother and friends. I want my children to live where I grew up and spend time with Czech family members who love them. And make memories for a lifetime."

09…how? Did we ever figure it out? Like, can players manage themselves for 3 months, but no longer?
