How about this...game within the game...if one of your players gets it, you're eliminated and the other team advances. Bang.

Unless it's like a Leipsic caliber player, then you can just put him on waivers and keep playing...

What about the teams that used the same locker room? Or the teams that played against that team? If one player gets sick, the house of cards falls.

That's needlessly alarmist really. If that were grounded in reality, not one grocery store or anything would be open. You scrub it down and they just said surfaces aren't as big of a deal as we panicked people into thinking...so, that part seems like a non-issue, or close enough to one...

You think they'll ban fighting for this tournament? Bunch of Neanderthals bleeding on each other is a bad look on NBC.

Ban? No. But how many fights are there in the playoffs these days anyhow...? I don't know the answer, but I imagine it's less than a fistful most years...

Some guys, like Aliu, get dealt a bad hand in terms of junior teammates...and that's really unfortunate. He wasn't a very promising prospect for me, but that doesn't mean he didn't deserve a hell of a lot better than he got...Downie and these types are sociopaths...

Akil Thomas, for instance, has said basically, "race has never really been an issue for me...everyone has treated me well."

Aliu got dealt an almost impossible hand...Nigerian father, Ukrainian mother...moved from Ukraine where he didn't want to leave from, moved to Nigeria, moved to Canada when he was 12...didn't speak English. Every day he'd fight someone, by his own admission, he fought kids because he didn't understand them and assumed they were talking about him...he also was not super coachable, despite only having started playing six years before his draft year...so he had his own reputation. That said, and again to reiterate, no one deserves to have Downie as a teammate...and Jesus, those social media messages that he gets, that's beyond words...

Good on him for telling his story again, getting people like Peters to change or getting them out of the way is a big positive...hockey really should be for everyone who is humane and I hope that the NHL wields its power to continue to push that message down through the layers...
Great post.

The more I read about how the NHL is going to go about the testing and having players self-administer temp readings and symptom check themselves, I can't think of anyway this ends poorly if one player gets exposed, especially considering how many players play through pain and other things. And considering 14+ players came down with mumps previously I just dont see the league being prepared for this.

I don't usually give goal scoring hugs in the grocery store. Or take a faceoff with another shopper.

Yeah, I mean, obviously that was a direct response to locker room use only. But at the end of the day, a bunch of people that don't have it won't give it to each other no matter how much they try...naturally, that falls on the testing side of things...but this isn't super hard to conceive...

Testing when they arrive is a must. But then everybody would need to remain quarantined throughout the “playoffs” to assure they remain a bunch of people that don’t have it so they don’t give it to each other.

Yeah, make an Olympic village style thing...in 10 days you're down to eight teams anyhow...seems manageable enough...

Find a way to assign point values to each game so when the inevitable cancellation occurs you can still crown a champion.

24 makes sense considering there were a good amount of teams that still had a shot at making the playoffs. You can't just take that away from them. There's no truly "fair" way to do this unless you are able to play the rest of the regular season.
