It seems off that no one would take him for one more year:

I'm surprised Vermette had no takers around the league...he could still be claimed off waivers I suppose...

The Coyotes have that kid who has an analytics background...so maybe they track something internally that they don't like...or the old GMs played hard ball with him again and he couldn't get anything done with them, just like how he got bamboozled a bit on the Datsyuk deal...

He drafted that boner with no hockey sense too...Chychrun or whatever...already signed him and everything...I really don't have high hopes for him being that good...athletic tools, sure...skill and size, sure...but he plays like a dummy...those guys tend not to pan out very well...

Landeskog's speaking out about concussions & changing hockey's culture.
After the first week, I was allowed to watch TV in short 15-minute bursts. I remember sitting in my townhouse in Denver with my friend Johan around 6 p.m., and I had to tell him to turn off the TV — then all the lights in the house. Johan was totally cool about it, but he figured he would put on some soft lighting so we could see. So he turned on the little electric fireplace in the corner of the room.

After a few minutes, I turned to him and said, “I’m sorry, buddy, but we’re going to have to turn that off, too.” Johan almost started laughing. He thought I was messing with him.

I had to tell him, “No, I’m serious. The flickering light is bothering me. I just can’t do it.”

He turned it off and we sat in complete darkness.

---

One thing I’ve learned about leadership is that it’s not always about being a rah-rah guy, or giving a great speech. Sometimes it’s just about looking out for your teammates and understanding what they’re going through. That includes the injuries that you can’t see — that don’t bleed all over your jersey like my broken nose did.

Unlike broken bones, concussions are invisible, and that means that everyone in the hockey community needs to unite and redefine what we mean by toughness and warrior mentality. If we continue to keep quiet, it’s sending the message that taking time to recover is not right, or that it’s a sign of weakness. We have to stand up and speak up.

So Jochen Hecht finally retired from professional hockey today...over the years, I never got any definitive answer as to how his name should be pronounced, I've heard a number of variations over the years, but never from a German... @Gaucho can you provide some assistance?
Dude - hiss like a cat, then laugh like "hihihihi"! Amrite, @Gaucho?

I'm just sad every visit to Munich the locals leave little chance to converse with them in German. They spot us a mile a way and either speak direct in English or go straight there in second round.

Shanahan story on Sean Avery chirping Joe Sakic
I remember when I was in Detroit, Sean Avery stood up as Joe Sakic was skating by our bench. Sean was a young, enthusiastic hockey player who was well liked by us old guys, and as you might know, was known for trash talking. But when he stood up and yelled, “Hey Sakic!” Brett Hull grabbed him by the back of his sweater and yanked him down on the bench. Then he said, and I'll never forget this, “You are not allowed to speak to Mr. Sakic.” And then Sean looked down the bench at the rest of the boys and we all just sort of nodded.

Patrick Roy resigning as HC and VP of Hockey Ops. Doesn't believe that his and Avs' visions are aligned.

Hey, his vision was that he should get the spotlight and the Avs vision was to win.
