The 2016 World Cup of Hockey

Postby Lelldorin » Mon Sep 26, 2016 4:52 am

Can we stop pretending that Lundqvist is an elite goalie that's constantly hung out to dry by a poor team in front of him? Dude hasn't won anything of significance.
The Olympics 2010?
Not 2010... He won gold in 2006. Forgot about that.
My bad :face:

But yeah, that is correct. I don't think he has won something major except for that gold. But it is quite ok to have a silver from 2014 as well...

This thing is a best of three? Gross.
I had no idea, and this makes me hate it even more.

I'm surprised at the amount of people dodinting about good hockey being on tv during the most painful time to be a hockey fan.

My issue is 100% with the added risk to injury, nothing else. I feel the same way about the Olympics and any other tournament that isn't the NHL.

Do not think Europe will win a game.

I'm not sure there is an added risk over what the players would normally be doing at this time of the year.

What are they normally doing? Jousting?

I just don't see playing one high talent game every other day to have a higher injury potential than the end of summer weightlifting/very start of training camp.

The Murray injury may be magnifying it for Pens fans, but overall I don't think it is a problem.

Does this belong in the elimination thread?

I don't worry so much about acute injuries, it's the leagues superstars being extra exhausted come playoff time in the real league. Especially if the superest of superstars is on my favorite team and just had a deep cup run.

Same argument applies. I don't think what they are doing now is more... physically strenuous...than what would occur in camp.

You think league superstars put out in camp? At the level they're doing in actual competition? Hmm.

At least they don't have to travel much.

Right. Didn't Crosby make a point to say in 2010 that he and others were not as fresh during that playoff run due to the short off-season and Olympics?

Oh absolutely not. But the schedule is heavier in camp. More time on the ice. More time in the gym. More time taking fitness tests.

Maybe, maybe not... but it would make me feel better, which should be their ultimate goal. To make NTP66 feel better.

I'm not trying to condescend, meow. I hope you're right.

In a way it might make for interesting late season hockey if all the good players are knocked down a few pegs and others rise up. Might be a good time for a Nashville to jump in and make a splash.

No worries. I know my opinion isn't a very popular one, but I do think it's better to have the top players playing each other instead of being in camp

World Cup is going to do more for players than going up against half AHL line ups the next 2 weeks.

I'd rather Crosby be playing in a game like the World Cup Finals than a game vs someone who is getting shipped back to Grand Rapids in 10 days trying to earn a job.

Id rather him play 2 of 6 preseason games and work on drills and strength training.
