Convince me that Austin Matthews is a future Elite center

Postby Algernon » Mon Apr 18, 2016 1:23 pm

I don't see it.

Every goal I see this kid score are the kind of goals that I don't think are there in the NHL. I also don't think his playmaking ability is anything special.

The dude is a bigger and center position version of Taylor Hall.

Never seen him play, so I don't know, but one could do worse than drafting a bigger and center version of Taylor Hall.

so you compared him to one of the best wingers in today's game and then went on to say you don't know how he can be elite?

I'm not overly wild with him. He kind of reminds me of Sean Monahan. Good, but not great 1st overall type talent. I don't think he's "special" and I don't think the gap between he and Puljujarvi and Laine is as big as some make it out to be.

I'm not sure I see a lot of Taylor Hall to him. Hall is a streak-and-shoot winger who relies on speed and work ethic to generate chances. Matthews seems a little smarter, with a quick release, a guy that kind of lies in the weeds a little bit...where as Hall is flashier, but, in part because of his position, is outside the dots trying to work in...Matthews is already there...

Taylor Hall is a top line winger but I wouldn't say he's top 5/elite

Ovechkin
Benn
Parise

And I'd take Vanek, Gaudreau, huberdeau, Nash and Landeskog over him in no particular order

I'm just personally not a fan of Hall.

You basically described Tavares.

But I get the impression johnny T is on another level whenever it comes to thinking the game

He's much less talented than Tavares, so I didn't want to go there really...Tavares was an exceptional status player...

I didn't realize going down 2-0 in a series is getting swept.

I guess the Pens didn't beat the Caps in 09 or the Wings.

They can't score on Kari Lehtonen in a playoff series with a defense where Alex Goligoski plays 24 minutes per night...

I offered to give odds on a bet, I'll offer them again...it's not looking good...

I just now noticed the rear wiper is going. It's like a tribute to the band on the Titanic, playing along stoically to its demise.

Come on. Vanek was only healthy scratched, like, a dozen times this year. He and Hall are close.
