It sounds like Fleury would be exempt, and we'd be able to protect Murray - unless the NHL views that exempt list as "already protected", meaning that we wouldn't be able to protect Murray. I doubt we'll know for 100% certainty until the Penguins themselves comment on it.

Fleury doesn't have a NMC though. He has a limited NTC.
The only ones exempt will be Crosby and Malkin - based on that info.

Fleury has an NMC with a limited NTC (something like 12 teams he can be traded to).Fleury doesn't have a NMC though. He has a limited NTC.

Missed that.
Guess we'll know more June 22.
Will be interesting to see if Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang, and Fleury can all be protected without them counting toward the total.

Wouldn't this be our saving grace?I saw this on Reddit, and figured most would want to read it:
[*]Any players in to their 2 first years of entry level contract will not be exposed to the expansion draft.

With regards to Sprong, absolutely.

It sounds like it means they can keep fleury and murray, so the dilemma is alive and well.So what does this mean for our goalie dilemma?

That's my interpretation of it. Having it the other way would leave only scraps for the new team to draft, since most teams' star players have some sort of movement clause in their contracts. It sounds like Fleury would be exempt, and we'd be able to protect Murray - unless the NHL views that exempt list as "already protected", meaning that we wouldn't be able to protect Murray. I doubt we'll know for 100% certainty until the Penguins themselves comment on it.
But unless anything has changed, only one player is eligible to be taken away from each team, so that helps.

I hadn't read it closely yet, but I thought in passing I had read that NMC players were required to be kept AND counted. You could ask a player to waive his NMC for purposes of exposing him...
Like I said, I didn't read it that closely yet...but my guess is that it will hinge on whether or not they will count Murray as a "pro"...i think we're keeping Fleury regardless if he's on the roster because we have to...

From my (likely incorrect) understanding, Fleury's case is kinda whack because he has a NMC but only a limited NTC. He can't be sent to the AHL but he can be traded to like half the league.
Regardless of any of that jazz, I really dislike having an odd number of teams in the league.

I still don't see Vegas being successful. Not at all.

With the casinos using tickets and boxes as perks to entice people to come, I think it will be successful, at least financially. Successful as in loyalty of fan base? Probably not.

When is this team supposed to start existing? This Fall?

GMs were told they would get a 12 month warning before an expansion draft were to take place. So, probably more like 17-18...

My impression, as I said above with a quick glancing over the parameters, is that it's the "opposite" of what you say basically. He not only counts against our protected players list, but we have to keep him.ie He's exempt?Fleury's NMC is the only thing that matters for purposes of the expansion draft...From my (likely incorrect) understanding, Fleury's case is kinda whack because he has a NMC but only a limited NTC.
