That one is a little bit on the line because NYR13 doesn't have obvious possession of the puck...but it's just an unfortunate event as part of a normal hockey play...

I love this. He's high af but you don't normally see this sort of honest response to an injury in pro sports.

I hate reverse hits. They aren't much better than hits from behind to me because the player doesn't really have time to protect themselves and while this is an extreme case, I have seen quite a few injuries off of these.

Are reverse hits taught to kids? Or is it just something that players pick up on? Forsberg was so good at them.

The thing about reverse hits is that the formula is: reverse hit victim is about to apply contact to the blind side of the puck carrier.

Now, I'm not saying every one of these is going to be a boarding penalty. But there's only so many ways you can get to reverse hitting in the first place...

Taught? I wouldn't say so. It's usually a survival mechanism. Forsberg was a 5'11" power forward playing against a bunch of NFL linebackers...he needed to do more than just be skilled...it's a puck protection mechanism...

Reverse hit is puck protection to me. There's an expectation for the puck carrier not to put themselves in a vulnerable position. I'd say the puck pursuer should be held to the same

reverse checks are an interference penalty imo. you can't hit a non-puck carrier. Admittedly it's not as cut and dry when you have two guys fighting for the puck on the same plane, but if you have possession and then leave it to hit a guy behind you, that's interference
A player is allowed the ice he is standing on
(body position) and is not required to move in order
to let an opponent proceed. A player may “block” the
path of an opponent provided he is in front of his
opponent and moving in the same direction. Moving
laterally and without establishing body position, then
making contact with the non-puck carrier is not
permitted and will be penalized as interference.
that's what the rule book says on interference. Page 87 here: https://media.nhl.com/site/asset/public ... lebook.pdf

I admit the rules aren't that clear, but to me the key is "provided he is...moving in the same direction". If you're attempting a hit and moving away from the puck, you're not moving "in the same direction" imo.

I actually like how USA hockey has it defined:
(3) An attacking player who no longer has possession or control of the puck initiates contact with the defending player in an effort to obstruct their ability to play the puck or an opponent.
if you go for a check, you don't have possession of the puck typically (in the same way you would be offside if it happened at teh blue line)

Any time the Devils and Caps both lose on the same night, it makes my day. There are several teams in the East with a disastrous goaltending situation, and that will be even more apparent as these games start to tighten up down the stretch. The teams with leaky goalies will drop out of the middle of the pack and start drifting towards the bottom here soon.

I think Devils have already gotten the worst goaltending imaginable and will strive to fix it. This might be closer to their low end. They also haven't had Jack for splotches...

Agreed. I think Washington's luck finally ran out and I can't see them being involved in the race for much longer.

NJ and NYI are probably going to improve. I can see TB PHI and DET going the other way too though

They have been without Hamilton for quite a few games also, so yeah, they are a good bet to improve if they get healthy. Getting everyone back healthy and significantly improving their goaltending could prove to be an uphill climb.

Is there anyone out there to significantly fix their goaltending issue? I don’t know who is really available to be honest

There's always someone available for the right price. But that's the rub. So many teams need goaltending help, and that will raise the cost of the ones who are available.

Yeah wtf. Hey guys about to get hit, just take it and wipe yourself off the boards. Reverse hit means you're about to get hit, you can defend yourself. Bad takes all around
