It's a weird mix. You'll see a guy wearing a cage and t-shirt, then you'll have a guy like me that wears elbow pads and a jersey but also wears a visor and no mouthguard. Bunch of amateurs.

One of my guys is a total sacrifice the body type, wears a flak jacket/shoulder pad combo, elbow pads, cage, etc.

Is your teammate going to press charges? I would.

I believe he was entertaining the thought, I told him he should.

I think they get 30$ a game each. I can understand not jumping in and stopping a little scuffle immediately, but this was an assault.

First season out a North Park dude was wearing a legit bicycle helmet. Probably the easiest chirps of my career.

This is right. As a ref, I've been instructed if a fight happens and you don't think you can reasonably and safely break it up, just let it play out...it's not your job to break up fights (plus, that's a linesman's job anyhow )...if you feel it's necessary, you can call the po-po...but don't risk your safety to break up a fight like that...

In high school I had the ITECH shield where it was visor on top and cage on the bottom. You could convert it to visor only if you were playing in a pickup game or whatever. That's the only context I'd use 'half shield' in.

This is right. I agree. I guess you just take it a little more personal when the emotions are running and it's your teammate

No, but I did play in that era, so it wasn't out of turn.

Also, our playoff game last week. We had our team jerseys for next season in a guys truck but weren't going to wear them. We were getting beat going into the 3rd so one of our guys ran out to his truck and got the jerseys; we went full MD2 and changed into them. We won the 3rd period!
Lost the game, though.

The most dangerous punk I've played against wore no visor or cage. I don't think that's the issue.

do you guys wear shoulder pads too? I don't but the guys that wear those are so much more likely to engage in overly physical play

Nope. I wear elbow pads because I'm like 7ft tall on skates and the ground is a long way away, but I never initiate contact, just put myself in the way and let them come to me.

In roller, no. In ice, yes. In roller, I wear nothing but shin guards and a cup...no shoulders, no elbows, no visor, no nothing...

And yes, unequivocally, more pads/more reckless...seen in both organized and amateur leagues...

I don't wear a cup, I get by with compression shorts. Helmet/visor, elbow, shins.

When I eventually get back to ice I'll wear shoulder pads as I'm likely to throw myself into the boards a time or two.
