Probably could have gotten Hall from Edmonton. That's an interesting theory actually...their only real RWer is Blake Wheeler...so Kessel would really be a good get for them and Bryan Little plays a very similar game to Nick Bonino...I think they would definitely kick that idea around unless they had a very specific return in mind (i.e. a LHS d-man)

Current teams can offer 8 year deals, new teams only 7. Players tend to like to get that 8th year. You can extend someone when they are in the final year of a deal, ie: someone who's contract ends summer of 2017 you can extend for 8 more years now.
You currently have a RFA on your books, or a UFA that you are looking at. Can you sign them to a one year deal today, then tomorrow extend them for 8 more years? essentially giving them a 9 year deal?

No. You can not negotiate a one-year deal until January of the year in which the contract takes effect...
You could, in theory, wink-wink, nudge-nudge anything in the world, including this, but it's too much of a risk for a player to get hurt and never cash in on that...so much so, that no player with any agent worth his salt would allow that...

It's only the pre-season, but it amuses me that the Flyers played two games last night and were shut out in both.

Um... what? I don't understand the January thing.No. You can not negotiate a one-year deal until January of the year in which the contract takes effect...
Trouba is a RFA right now. Russell is a UFA right now. Obviously they can both sign a 1 year deal today. Are you saying that since this is the year that the contract took affect an extension is not signable until January? Is that what you meant?
Marchand was able to sign an extension now, even though under contract, because his current contract was not a 1 year deal?
Last year the Pens signed Cullen to a 1 year deal. Rutherford would not have been able to extend him for another 1 year until January...?

Sorry for being unclear...
Let's say a player signs a one year on, say, 7/27.
7/27/16 - Player X signs 1 year deal.
7/28-12/31 - May not negotiate an extension
1/1-6/30 - May negotiate an extension

After all of these years, ESPN still has Tyler Kennedy listed at C; Yahoo had him there well after he left the Pens.

Yeah, most of the league is a center according to most of the sources...the best forwards play center, so you play center in junior, you get drafted as a center and it sticks...I don't believe Tyler Kennedy has lined up at center for any NHL games in his career, a career that I've seen almost every shift of...
