I find when I run outside and with a group of people ..like when doing a 5k.. I'm much more motivated. I still hate it, but at least I can look at the person in front of me and be like.. do I really want to be slower than THAT guy? haha. Also just wanting to be done makes me run faster.
Running on the treadmill bores me to death. Doing the exercise bike though I can do 45-50 minutes at a clip and not even blink or get bored as long as I have music on or am watching TV. It's weird.

I'm the opposite... the bike is super boring to me. I just can't do it. The treadmill is much more non-bore inducing for me.

I hate the treadmill too, although I agree that it is WAY less boring than the elliptical and bike. However, I understand that some people simply cannot do the treadmill due to the higher impact. I enjoy running, but only outside.I'm the opposite... the bike is super boring to me. I just can't do it. The treadmill is much more non-bore inducing for me.

Went and had an ultrasound done on my heart and I joked with the lady nurse who did it that my baby sounds great.

Back to work weight loss just sort of happening in spurts: lost two pounds in the last week and still all about dietary changes.@@count2infinity covered it all pretty much. 500 calories a day is 1lb per week loss. I think aiming for 2lbs a week is aggressive unless you are reallllly big. I did 2lbs a week at first, but I started at 385. In general as a male you don't want to be under 1500 calories a day. Plug in your stats to MFP and see what it spits out at you. Find something that is attainable. Again you could have days where you are under 1500 or whatever but as long as you balance them out with some higher days it all evens out. Much like exercise its finding the balance that works for you. It doesn't have to be difficult it really doesn't. I would set a calorie number.. log and plot data points for at least 4-6 weeks.. then look at what you have lost and re-evaluate from there. No one person is exactly the same, but it does come down to calories and and calories out.MFP makes it pretty easy. Plug in your stats and how much you want to lose and then go from there. I currently have mine in at 1 pound a week which is a 500 calorie daily deficit. The reason I have that is because that's my absolute highest I want to be in a day (it's about 2300 calories for my current height and weight). I typically end my day between 1600 and 1800 though, so that plus exercise has me at ~2 pound per week clip. Thanks, fellas! What calorie deficit could I be looking at per day to start off? 500 or so? I've always heard the jabber about not cutting back too hard or your metabolism will slow down but I don't if there's any truth to that.
Starvation mode is a myth. Make sure you're eating enough to get your nutrients and then move on. I think for a man it's recommended to not go below 1600 calories per day. Every so often I end up below that, but I've made the conscious effort to not eat if I'm not hungry, so I don't particularly mind the days I end up 1400 or so. It's largely about balance. If I have 2500 calories one day, I can have 1500 the next, and boom! I'm at a 2000 calorie per day clip.
The first few weeks for me were all about discovery and understanding of my current (at the time) lifestyle. In fact the first week, I changed nothing in my diet just so I could see the answers to these questions: What was I putting in my mouth? How many calories was that? Did I really need all of that or could I have eaten half of it and still been satisfied? Was there a better alternative available? I was really shocked at the calories in things that I thought would be lower calories and vice versa. Once you have a better handle on what you're doing right now, you'll know how to go about changing it.
Current count: 210 to 191.
Limiting salt (and the desire for processed foods with too much salt) and sugar feels good.

I had my first "are you losing weight?" this week at work. Felt pretty awesome. Also awesome: my new jeans and belt. Don't have to spend the day pulling them up non-stop. I'm back to the same size jeans that I have been pretty much the entirety of my life. Spent a couple years at a size up, and at one point in my early 20's I was a size smaller, but that didn't last very long. Luckily, when I got big, I held onto most of my other clothes that didn't fit anymore, so I don't have to go and buy an entire new wardrobe.

That happened to me at about 15 pounds lost. I also bought all new work pants (2” smaller) at the time, so could be a factor.

Yeah, I was wearing one of my sweaters that I hadn't worn in a while because it was too tight a few months ago... that might be it.

Huh... I was nominated to be "Member of the Month" at my gym. They want a picture from before I started, a new picture now, and then a little write-up of what I've been doing. Kinda neat.

Progress pics are fun and really show how far you have come. Congrats on your gym recognizing you.

Nice, man. Good for you. That kind of positive reinforcement will keep you motivated.

I didn't take any pictures of "before", but I've got a few from the beach this summer. That should work.

I wish I had gotten some before pictures for myself as well since I've put on about 10 pounds lifting since last year.

Awesome.. I got a $50 gift card to the store next door to the gym that does natural foods kind of stuff for the member of the month thing. They have grassfed beef. I'll probably use it on a couple beautiful steaks after my child is born and my wife can eat mid-rare steak again.

Haha, it is. I didn't even realize I was going to get it until after they posted the stuff on facebook and whatnot.
"Absolute animal" is a bit of stretch. There are some definite animals at the gym... dudes and ladies alike are absolutely ripped. They're all sweaty and whatnot when I get there and still working out after I leave. I definitely don't have "absolute animal" kind of time, but I've got "doin alright" kind of time.
