I've never had an instructor call out cadence higher than 70.
I did a Kendall Toole warmup ride where she wanted 120 cadence. :scared:
It was with her! She was twisted... I think I'm in love. She let her hair down halfway through which gave me a two minute energy surge

I meant to say resistance, not cadence. 120 cadence works for me when I am at 35 resistance. ;)

When she said 85, I grunted a barely audible "Fu*k off" and let that wheel spin left. I have the plus so it adjusts automatically, which was a nasty surprise.

You're crushing me on the 2022 challenge already, by the way. On my 'Friends' leaderboard there is you, a big gap, and then the rest of us clustered around about 25% of yours. ;)

Earlier this week I decided I wanted to get to 100 rides in the year I've had my bike. I had 66 rides at the time and I had to get it done by Feb 25th or so. Which is two rides every three days. I could game it and start doing warm-up and cool-down rides but I haven't been doing that all year and don't want to start now just to make the number.
I was very excited to give it a shot and then we got COVID and I'm sore and tired.

I have always done warm ups and cool downs but mostly because I'm 52 years old and need all the recovery that I can get. I'm also trying to get my Apple Watch New Years challenge badge which is 7 days straight of closing all 3 rings. I just did it for 365, what's 7 more days?

my January watch challenge will be difficult to obtain though. 3000 exercise minutes. that's an average of 96 minutes PER DAY

last night I did my first Power Zone Max ride. that **** is some serious sprinting! :scared:

That's what I like about the big 2022 challenge. It can't really be gamed, it just tracks minutes and not individual rides. The caveat is that it counts all events, so you get the same credit for cycling as you do meditation.

Those heart rate spikes are crazy! Are those Power Zone workouts like a less crazy HIIT?

Shaf, even if you're not into PowerZone you should take a PowerZone FTP. It's the 20 minute test that baselines your Peloton PowerZones and it activates the zones on your screen for all of your rides. It's helpful even if you're not doing a PZ class.

Search the Powerzone classes and find the "FTP Test Ride." I take it every few months as the zone change. It's a 20 minute ride, I stack it with the 10 minute FTP Warm-up.

PowerZone is similar to HIIT I guess, but you can pick what kind of zones you want to work in a day. On a scale of 1-7 you can generally work zones 2-3, or 3-6, or go Max and work at the top end. I don't do the Max.

Worth knowing that the Zones are different measures of different things on different platforms. In Peloton it's simply a measure of your output on a scale of 1-7 if 7 is a dead sprint. In Garmin it's a measure of heartrate zones. In the graphic shared above it's (I assume) a scale Apple is using.

Awesome, thanks. So far, my primary limitation has been leg fatigue, not heart rate, which I'm sure is due to having run so much during the pandemic. That said, I had a Strive Score of like 50 for the 30 min ride I did two nights ago, which was the highest one I had yet.

that's not HR, it's bike output. Power zone has 7 zones based on power. zone 1 is like a flat road with moderate cadence. you could ride that **** all day. zone 7 is an all out sprint that you can do for 30 seconds, maybe 40. :scared:

I THINK my max HR last night was 164?

I'm using a Schwinn IC4 and mPaceline app so I'm getting output just like on a Peloton. some people complain that Schwinns overestimate power, a big factor on Zwift but mine clearly doesn't. I do need to re-do my FTP test though as these zones are from last May and I'm confident that my zones are too low. I keep putting it off because the last (first) FTP test I did I came dangerously close to puking. :o

Ah, I figured it was your Apple stuff.
When I export my rides to Garmin it looks weird because Garmin has their own heart zones and they don't align at all with the PowerZones. Because I have a relatively low heart rate it's telling me I don't get out of Zone 2 very much despite setting a PR in Peloton. It's annoying.

I only had time for a 20 min ride so decided to try one of the metal rides. Well, that was stupid

She was doing an 85 cadence at 85 resistance. Come on.
There is a thread on Reddit right now about the hardest rides. Half the comments are about Kendall's metal rides.

Do a Leanne Hainsby music ride. They are challenging but won't kill you, and LH is a sweetheart.

Did a 30 minute 80s rock ride that was annoyingly awesome. I’ve basically spent a year sparingly using my ghetto rig because blindly peddling into oblivion is not particularly fun or enjoyable. Following along with an instructor immediately improved everything about the experience. I see why the Peloton cult exists. Needing to spitball resistance levels was a bit annoying but I’ll make do to save myself from the bike expenditure (for the time being).
