Velcro shoes won't necessarily help you up your game with the ladies.
lmao.

fortunately its very uncomfortable to walk in these, so they just for lifting on a platform

When, i'm doing oly lifting? yeah.

I don't really step off the platform

If you try and lift in running shoes, you're going to have a bad time. The soles and support structure of regular shoes aren't meant to withstanding you cleaning and front squatting 2 times your bodyweight

Oh okay lol I think people thought you were just walking around barefoot even on chest days and stuff like that. I figured you just meant for squats and maybe deadlifts.

Anyone that doesn't know why people go barefoot, it's because proper squat form has you pushing through with your heels. If you're in running shoes, it puts your feet at a tough angle to do that, basically setting your forward. They do make flat-footed shoes for just this, but it's easier to just be in socks to me.

Ok good. I was going to have to start open hand slapping people if you were walking around barefoot constantly.

Why not just buy a pair of chuck Ts rather than going barefoot at the gym. I used to use those until i converted to using all minimalist shoes and now i just work out with the pair of trail running shoes i bought.

I kind of do too, thats why i invested in zero drop athletic shoes. I try to workout at home and go barefoot anyway. I try to be barefoot or in socks as much as possible and the rest of the time have "like barefoot" shoes on.

I bag on Crossfit a lot, but I am thankful for the intro to zero drop shoes for training. And MMA shorts.

Just spent the last two hours trying to cure the tendonosis in my knee

Trying to figure out if it's quad tightness, hamstring tightness, glute tightness or what

Nothing was working, rolling out my quads, hams, paused stiff leg deadlifts, sitting in a body weight squat... Nothing...

Finally moved to my hip abductor and just doing some basic hip mobility stuff with some resistance and my knee already feels 10x better

Unfortunately I couldn't squat today but hopefully by tomorrow

I had been drifting in the wrong direction with fitness and weight the past 6-12 months. I started running last Tuesday to try to get in better shape so that I can participate without limitation at the Gogol concert next week. I started using a calorie tracker and have been running every other day (just 2-2.5 miles). I've been aiming for something along the lines of a high protein/low carb or not strict keto/paleo diet and have probably been averaging 1200-1400 calories/day. I've lost 7 pounds in the 8 days that I've been doing this.

A couple of my more active friends (cardio/strength workouts) have suggested that I need to be eating more calories. I'm not starving myself. I'm eating good stuff, hitting my protein (.5g/lb) and fiber numbers each day and drinking lots of water. Other than one day when I exercised at an odd time given what I'd put into my body at that point, I've felt fine energy wise.

I'm using the UP app, which has you aim for -500 calories if you have a weight loss goal. I've been coming in at probably -800 to -1100 instead. I guess the concern is that I'm not feeding my body enough and will actually be losing muscle mass? FWIW, I'm about 5'11", 205 to start 198 now.

So, am I being too aggressive here?

Going aggressive is fine as long as you feel fine. You will lose muscle mass, just not as much if you add some weight training into your routine.

That's probably unlikely. I just don't have the time.

Any way for me to really be able to gauge whether and to what extent there is loss of muscle mass?

Other than strength?

No.

The only way to really know if you've been catabolic is if after losing or while losing weight you drastically lose strength even after carbing back up and still losing strength

If the goal is to maintain muscle mass but also lean out, .5g/lb you weigh is pretty low. I'd go at least .8g/lb. I know I'm in a cut right now and I still aim for 1g/lb I weigh (170 pounds).

I am not sure whether to put this in this thread or the wrestling thread, but I have been doing DDP yoga for a couple of weeks and the crap works wonders.

DDP is the only person in the history of history to do yoga in jeans.
