There is a spartan race that weekend an hour away in Ohio that I kind of want to do to test myself. I'm pretty sure I could do it at this point without too much trouble.

I almost thought about doing the double: Lemieux 6.6k in the AM, Spartan in the afternoon. Finances stopped me from doing it. Had it not jumped from 49 to 99 plus their fees and insurance, I was in on it. I've done a two race day twice, and it was kinda fun: once because I knew I had the time to pull it off thanks to a late Warrior Dash wave, and a second time because I was an idiot and committed to two things without checking my calendar. Didn't want to lose out on the 7 Springs run because... well, because it's 7 Springs, and I didn't want to lose out on the Color Run because I was meeting a girl from OKC down there. I finished that race, met with her for literally a minute and said "I gotta go. I have a wave at 7 Springs that starts in a little over an hour. I'm really sorry. I'll text you later." That was the last I saw or heard from her. :lol: So I had to hop in the car, drive 70-80 miles and race the clock so I could make the last wave on time. I ended up making it reasonably close, but until I checked my bag I was at least 2-3 minutes after the horn.

The 8 miler, which is similar in length to 7 Springs' Mud On The Mountain, isn't terrible. If it's where I think it is, it won't have the hills that 7 Springs did. You'll definitely be hauling heavier stuff though and doing a million burpees. If I can do it, and I'm old and about 10 lbs over my normal weight right now, you can definitely do it.

No clue where to put this... figured here is just as good as anywhere else. I'm a kombucha fan. I don't know if it actually has any benefit to my health, but I enjoy the taste, so I drink it a few times a week. I was out at lunch and saw GT's fall limited edition called "Living in Gratitude". It said it was apple, carrot, tumeric and spiced. It is one tasty beverage. I highly recommend it.

Not that I want the 20-30 degree temperature drop, but it will definitely help with curling this weekend. We started our club matches last week. Between the humidity causing tons of fog and the drops of water freezing on the ice and causing the stones to literally wobble like a weeble, it made the conditions interesting.

Highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 40s should remedy last week's situation.

I'm so jealous.
I got to go curling while I was in Sweden this spring and had a blast. I think there's 1 place in the KC Metro to curl.

they opened a bunch of spots here over the summer, so I was lucky enough to get in.

As of right now, I think RMU is the only place within a few hours of Pittsburgh that has curling. According to wikipedia, Pittsburgh is the only Club on the western side of the state. I'm somewhat surprised there is nothing listed for Erie or especially State College. On the other side of the state, you have Anthracite (Scranton), Philly, and Bucks County. For us, it would actually be closer to drive to Ohio, where they have clubs in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincy, which are 2, 3, and 4 hrs away respectively. We're supposed to be getting a new dedicated facility by 2019. I know they broke the land for it, but I'm not sure how far the building has progressed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c ... ted_States

I'm still relatively new to the game, with maybe a handful of training classes gapped 5-6 months apart to my name. I was really surprised how sore I was the next morning. Guessing it had to do with using muscles that you wouldn't typically use.

Philadelphia Curling Club is actually in Paoli, about 3 minutes from my wife's office and where we used to live. We've thought about joining on multiple occasions, probably when our daughter gets older.

Ran 40 seconds slower this year at the 6.6k despite the weather being picture perfect for a run. :(

I really derailed my training when I started school back up. Oh well.

I never got a good pace going. Started out further than usual since I didn't know what type of pace I'd have and ended up getting stuck behind walls and walls of walkers for the first half of the race. Like it would be run 500 ft, three wide... run a few more hundred feet, two people wide with two more people walking slightly ahead of them, etc. I was fine once we cleared the second bridge and made the right, but by that point I could tell my time wasn't gonna be great.

I don't have my watch from Garmin back yet and didn't pay attention to the clock at the finish line, but nonetheless it's probably one of the slowest times I've had for the 6.6k.

Yeah. The traffic density was way higher for some reason, for the full duration too. If I do it again I will start farther forward in the chute.

Thought maybe losing all that weight would help when it came time to give blood samples... nope. Still a pain in the ass. This is the 3rd lady in the last 4 years that has attempted to draw blood from me and needed 3 or 4 pricks to get anything.

She said "Ya know... most peoples veins bounce back when I tap them. Yours just run away." So she just went digging with the needle and eventually found something. Oh well. Interested to see the results, though!

Officially down to my lowest weight in about 16 years, 158. This is right about my good zone, wouldn't really want to lose any more since I'm wearing smalls at this point. When my wife ordered me a shirt for Disney, it was actually a youth large :lol: I do want to bulk up a little bit muscle mass perspective but need to get my lazy ass lifting.

158? Are you 12?

In all seriousness, congrats. Yesterday I dropped under 200 for the first time in over 5 years. Feels good to hit some kind of recognizable milestone.

A youth large would make him about 14... :pop:

Haha. I'm only 5'11" so it isn't that crazy. Congrats! Getting under 200 is a huge milestone.

I'm 5'11 1/2 and bounce between 180 and 183 or so and feel great. I couldn't imagine being under 160 but great work. That's dedication. Congrats shaf. Anything is better than the 385 I started at though.

I haven’t been under 200 since I was 16.

I keep reminding myself after a weekend of beer, salty fried foods, and little to no control where I put on 5 pounds of water weight of how far I've come. 285 down to 195... seeing a 2 to start my weight on the scale isn't the end of the world in the grand scheme of things.

Yep water weight goes away in a few days. Gotta live life.

I have a bowl of ice cream every night. Honestly cutting way back on the booze has made it so much easier to keep weight off. It's like my metabolism is back.

I'm shorter than most of you at 5' 7" and I couldn't imagine myself below 160.

I got back on my rollercoaster of a diet and while the weight is dropping, it's coming off slower and less drastically as it has in the past. I was told that's supposed to be good. Lot of it is cutting back on the booze. I'll go out for a beer or two maybe once every week or so, but it's nothing like the post-work happy hours that we used to have that were every week.

Annual bloodwork update:

2016-->2017-->2018

BMI: 35.9-->34.8-->24.6
LDL: 167-->129-->131
HDL: 46-->46-->54
Triglycerides: 166-->111-->88
Total cholesterol: 246-->197-->203 (I don't know how this is calculated...)
Total cholesterol to HDL ratio: 5.3-->4.2-->3.8

Pretty pleased with everything except my LDLs... I wish they were lower. I don't know if I'm just genetically predisposed to holding onto LDLs? Because I've really changed my diet a lot in the past year and it doesn't seem to do much for the LDLs. I guess just something to keep an eye on moving forward in life.

so supposedly Spartan is now doing something called a Trail Series, which almost sounds like the read some feedback about people skipping obstacles. They have one of the Trail Series runs in Palmerton, which is probably in shaf's territory. Wouldn't mind doing the Super distance, which is about 8 miles, but it looks like it's 10k (6 miles) and 21k (12.5 mi)

Edit: and the Trail page is gone
