Nice.

I've mainly been doing Christmas/Holiday rides this week.

Damn, nice job! Rides that I exceed 200 are rare. What kind of cadence do you like for max power? The faster stuff is harder for me.

I don't like high cadence, I think my legs are too long even with the seat adjusted correctly. It just feels weird.

If I'm going over 100rpm it's because I'm freeing my legs and resting, so I'm only at like 42% resistance.

My usual pace is around 85 rpm and set to 55% resistance. That's a zone 4ish 'tough but comfortable.' When I am pushing in the saddle I'll bump that up to 60% resistance.

For sustained climbs I'm dropping to the low 70s for cadence and in the low 70%s for resistance.

All out push climbs I'll drop into the 60s for rpm and go as high as 80%. Anything higher and I start to grind to a halt.

If I really want to break 250 I should probably just pick a power zone class and pedal in zone 4/5 the whole time instead of doing HIIT. Or find a climb class where they actually climb instead of talking about climbing during three minute breaks.

semi-related: I'm having a great time recently looking at all the people on Facebook saying, "so I dropped Peloton as an app user because of the price increase ($13 to $24) but now I've seen that everything else pretty much sucks in comparison. how can I get back on?"

oh trust me, they'll be glad to to take you back.

Wow. So based on that post, TIL that if I want to do more than 3 cardio equipment classes per month I need to upgrade to a $24/month access. **** that.

if you are a non-Peloton equipment owner, yes. I was paying for Peloton through Apple and using their Family Share to get my SO her own profile. she doesn't ride near as much as I do but she's a big fan of Ben's stretching classes. I bought a used Guide off of eBay and changed my membership to a Guide membership, same price as App+ and I get 5 profiles.
I've tried a few other services and they all suck, IMO compared to Peloton. I get Apple Fitness included in my Apple One subscription and it's ok but their classes seemed canned and they don't have enough music that I like. I also tried Journey (Bowflex's service) but found it to be low quality and not enough content.
Peloton app was a steal at $13 but they probably should've been inching the cost up every year instead of basically doubling it all at once.

I hit ride 1000 today unknowingly. Got like a hundred+ high fives when I started my ride this morning and had no idea why. After I was done I checked and it was ride 1000. Pretty crazy.

What's the difference between Stretching and Yoga?

What's the difference between Stretching and Yoga?
Yoga has poses and stuff and like a whole format to it....it can be pretty intricate. My wife likes to do it so I try to do it with her, and some of it can actually be challenging depending on what you do.

Stretching is just what I do after I get off the bike to not have my hamstrings tighten up haha.

I've had hip pain on one side for 2-3 weeks now. It could be a tweaked oblique, hernia, sat on a testicle too hard, kidney failure, no idea. I was looking for hip stretches and aside from a handful of stretching classes, there are a ton of yoga flows that focus on hips.

I've done yogo in the past here and there, mostly P90x, and was very bored by the intricacy of the routines.

I know Hanna C does like foam rolling stuff.. not sure if that might help? You need foam rollers for that though.

The yoga flows should work for you...those tend to be slower and easier and focus on one thing rather than going through a bunch of different poses and all of that.

We have rollers, mats, blocks, all that stuff. Have to keep the corner of the gym stocked with something.

I do a "reclined hip stretch" for my sore hip. Usually it's my non dominant leg (left), but I alternate to keep both legs/hips stretched out.

Image
Lie on your back on a yoga mat. Bend your knees, so your feet are flat on the floor.
Bring your right knee closer to your chest, lifting your right foot off the mat.
Bring your left knee and rotate your left leg outward at the hip. Rest your left ankle on your right thigh above the knee.
Deepen the stretch by grasping your hands behind your right thigh and pulling gently. You should feel this stretch in your left hip.
Hold for 20-30 seconds and repeat on the other side

I started having hip pain a few years ago. nothing severe just painful when getting up from the couch. I started stretching every night with mostly lower body stretches like runner's lunge and pigeon and those have made a huge difference. I mostly do my own little 15 min routine but sometimes I throw a Peloton stretch on the ipad to mix it up.

this is great overall stretch from Ben Alldis:

and Hannah Corbin has a great Hips stretch too:

Thanks. I've had that Hannah stretch bookmarked for years and use the 'frog' stretch every time I go golfing.

I like the stretching classes for that reason; I pick and choose the good ones that I like and add them into my own routines. Another reason why I prefer stretching over yoga, I reckon they're more modular.

I also like this particular Selena full body stretch class: https://members.onepeloton.com/classes/ ... cxOGY2OTg=

Thanks, DG. I've never seen that in the recline position, I'll have to give it a go. :thumb:

I just did this ride. And with a surprisingly high output as well. I was zoned out while she was doing the 12 Days of Christmas; her yelling "And get ready for the milking!!!" snapped me right out of it.

I've enjoyed all the holiday rides this year. Cody's as usual was the funniest, but they've all been good.

I've had hip pain on one side for 2-3 weeks now....
Had some time for the wife to work on me last night and we did determine that I have a knot in my oblique on the right side that is about the size of an open hand; it extends from my ribs down to the crest of the pelvic bone. She gave me some targeted stretches to do to work on it. Glad to have pinpointed it because it's been aching for so long I was legitimately worried it might be an organ/kidney issue.

So I guess it's time to find a regular family doctor after living here almost two years. How does one do this today? In the past, we've used word of mouth - but we both work with people who live on the opposite ends of the county/area, so that isn't helpful.

I found a listing of best doctors in your area on WebMD, and the first one sounded good...until I noticed that she has a concierge model (doesn't accept insurance, you pay an annual fee + a visit fee). My last two doctors ended up doing this, and we don't really need (or can afford) that level of care.

Is there a better way of finding doctors and specialists these days? Or just pick one randomly and hope for the best?

I found my PCP through UPMC's website, where they have a "Find a Doctor" search tool that gives you options to choose from to narrow down the pool, and will tell you if they're accepting new patients.

Obviously, you probably don't have UPMC down there, but check your insurance carrier/local hospital system's website to see if they have anything similar.
