On another note, do any men here have a history of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms in their family? My dad was in his late 60s when he nearly had one (thankfully they detected it and fixed it before it burst). I know every time I am laying on my back and can see my abdominal aorta pumping a little bit, it freaks me out that it's getting enlarged
Back in March when I was laying down to get to sleep I kept feeling my pulse in my stomach. I was also having abdominal pains that I couldn't really explain. Almost like a pulled muscle that I could feel if I did any kind of kicking motion. But I could feel that pain at night as well. It was weird. After this had been going on about a week, I had a particularly sharp pain in the abdomen on night and I started googling what it could be. A lot of the symptoms were for a abdominal aortic aneurysm. I started freaking out. It was midnight but I didn't want to wait. I went to the ER and got a CT scan and... everything looked great. They can look at the aorta, look for hernias, look for cancer, look for all kinds of things. And even though it cost me a little in the co pay, it really eased my mind. If I was you, I would schedule an appointment with a doctor and get that looked at pronto.

Turns out I was exercising too much along with being really stressed out from work. I think it was the stress more than anything. I was having a lot an anxiety and thinking about the pain made even more stressed which made the pain worse.
Thank you for the info! Honestly, between my father having that issue and the heart attack he had, I am going to be fanatical about early detection.

I’ve tried to write this a few different ways, but seated elliptical still wins.

That contraception actually looks pretty impressive. I've never been able to do an elliptical. I think for my height they're just too uncomfortable and give me back pain.

I would say a dude on an elliptical is more abstinence than contraception, but I get your meaning...

I’m 6’3 and my body is a nightmare of creakyness and inflammation. This thing is nice and gentle.

I got a 200$ stationary bike in the basement that I use when I can't get to the gym. Those Peleton bikes look nice, but wayyyyy too much $$$$$$$.

I assume your payments are strictly vodka and cheap hookers, no?

Don't you kind of have to love it to drop like 2k or so one one? Plus whatever the monthly sub cost is. They look nice, but If i have 2k to just spend.. it's not on an exercise bike haha.

First of all, what do you take me for? ...vodka is a breakfast alcohol...I'll take silver tequila, thank you. The cheap hookers part is acceptable.

Yeah, it’s not just a bike. It’s all the classes and ****. For much less money, you can do a fairly vanilla workout with any bike and just eat less junk.

I really don’t get it.

I think - I hope - that there is more of an accountability because of the price tag...maybe? Like, I dropped 2k on this thing, I'm not going to let it turn into a coat hanger in 4 months.

I feel like people say that about any home exercise equipment they buy, and 90% of it still becomes a coat hanger. If it's not something you will enjoy doing... you won't use it no matter the cost, or just be miserable when you do.

I'd go a cheaper route first.. see if you like it.. then go all out if it's something you really like doing.

My treadmill might be more important to me, from a health perspective, than anything else I own. It's a commercial model we bought from a gym equipment reseller. Weighs a ton.

We are excited to upgrade to a newer one when we move to the Latrobe house.

My wife tried a Peloton during a recent hotel stay. She LOVED it. I don't get it.

I'm feeling so good. My second short term goal I set for myself ends tomorrow and I'm 5 pounds ahead. More significantly for me I hit 267.6 today which is the lowest weight I've made it to since 2013. As you can see from this graph it's the floor I've banged against so many times since then:

Image

More importantly I'm just as motivated now as I was when I started this latest campaign in May. I'm going away for the weekend and then I'll set a new goal on Monday. I should be down to 255 by September 25th, which would have me down to the lowest weight I've been since I left the military.

The hardest part is that this rate of loss I'm using is about 1.75lbs a week which is really slow for me. First time I've ever tried this, normally I shoot for closer to 3 pounds a week. It is discouraging in that I've only lost 23.5lbs since mid-May, but I'm in no hurry and need to keep rocking the slow and steady process, I think.

Independent of that my running is getting better. Had a little check-up yesterday and my blood pressure is good, and my resting heart rate is still very low at 49 bpm. Things are well.
